Looks like will have to spend the extra from the supplier ...
Cannot connect to the meters even through the supplier - keeps coming back with an error at their end.And it does not come with batteries as described.Looks like will have to spend the extra from the supplier to get one that works :(

Could be a 5 star for value, but only 2 star for a silly default screen -
I have been using the Pipit 500 for just over a month. It is 'cheep' (sic pipit) and gives a fair amount of information. It basically echoes much of what is stored in your smart electric and gas meters. It would have given it 5 stars if it were possible to do one thing: display energy used now/today as the default screen. But it refuses to stay more than a short while before defaulting to estimated bills - which I still can't gather if it is monthly or from the bill date or neither of these - in short fairly useless. You can set targets - but I have yet to find out where they display. There are two red/green leds that glow when you are on low fuel use or high - but they only stay on a short while, so again not much use.In conclusion unless you keep the monitor next to you and willing to click 3 or 4 boxes every few minutes, this will not be much use to you.I cannot believe that the manufacturers have failed to make such a basic flaw right - it should be so easy to enable other default screens.

Easy to understand. Works well.

Useless
I've moved house a few times in the last few years, and each time after getting smart meters fitted I get given one of these. They haven't improved over the years, and like other reviewers here find, they are effectively useless. You CANNOT change to always see the instantaneous KW/H usage for gas and electricity, and I can find a way to upgrade its firmware either. It's a big own-goal from the electricity industry, presumably trying to tick boxes the cheapest possible way. Avoid.

Agree - disappointing
I agree with the first reviewer that this monitor could be a whole lot more useful. My main bugbear is the same as his, ie that the display defaults to a fairly useless screen, whereas what I find most helpful in monitoring usage is a large and easy to read real time display of consumption. On this monitor, this information is in quite small text on another screen - so you have to call up this screen, which can then only be read from close up. Also, there is a larger visual display on this screen in the form of a dial, but if you have solar panels this larger display does not distinguish between consumption and export of electricity - so it may look as if you are using a lot of electricity when in fact you are exporting a lot. (The text below it does, however, show a minus sign when generation exceeds consumption.)The monitor does score over others I have used in the way it records and displays historical information, which is useful if you want to analyse and record energy usage. But for me at least, this is less helpful in influencing the way you use energy and potentially reduce your bills than easy to access real time information.Note also that - although the monitor holds batteries, it is designed to run off the mains. If you want to unplug it, to move it around the house for example, you have to press a 'battery' button, which only runs for a couple of minutes, supposedly to preserve battery life. I'm not sure why it has to be this way, as I've used other monitors which run for months on batteries. This may constrain where you locate the monitor, as it has to be within reach of a power socket.I should say that I was given this monitor by my energy supplier when I had smart meters installed, so I can't get too upset by its shortcomings. I wouldn't have been happy if I'd actually paid money for it though!

Absolutely pants
This IHD (in home device) was provided by my previous energy supplier. I now don't even bother plugging it in. I'm a bit of a techie and I do not understand this device. It gives me very little by way of useful information and it is very ugly to look at. The only positive is that the meters themselves report the readings back to my energy supplier everyday so I no longer have to be inconvenienced by the pushy meter plus men wanting access to the house.
