Walker's XCEL 500BT Digital Electronic Muff and Protective Case Bundle

Great product and delivered fast.

My old set of Walkers finally gave up the ghost (one of the muffs broke off). I probably could have repaired it but after 10 years I don't think they owed me anything. I tried a couple of the AXIL in ear options and found they did not fit well (maybe I have weird ears) and as such were uncomfortable and really didn't keep out the noise. These new Walker's XCEL 500BT are perfect for me. They suppress sound even better than my previous pair, are comfortable and amplify sounds and let me listen to ambient sounds and conversations perfectly while block out (almost completely) the shooting sounds (I'm shooting a Glock 21 in .45 cal). They do connect via blue tooth to my Iphone so that I can listen to music and take calls if I desire. If I have one complaint it is that the music playback is not very loud... of course that might just be the muffs protecting my ears from damaging rock music. These were a little pricier than the ones I had but they came with a nice case and, essentially, you get what you pay for.

I have liked Walker's muffs for many years. I purchased the 500BT model for 4 reasons - Its low profile, bluetooth connectivity to my cell phone, comfortable fit & effective NRR. It delivers on all of these except for a constant background level hiss one hears on all frequency modes - the lowest level appears to be for clear voice. I have large ears & wear glasses. The large size of the cup and the gel ear pads make for a very comfortable fit - no headaches after wearing for long periods. All controls and the 2 batteries have been moved to the head band. This enabled Walker to lower the muffs profile to minimize interference with rear long gun stocks - a big plus. There are a total of 7 control buttons on the headband which means you have to fidget to find the right one. The 3 Bluetooth related buttons are along the side edge of the headband. There are voice prompts & beeps to let you know what's changed when you press buttons. The timed automatic shut off is a nice convenience, you just have to pick the desired fixed time interval (default is 2 hours). The cups fold into the headband making for compact storage. The instruction sheet is terse and the print exceptionally small. Be prepared to use the magnifier feature on your smartphone to easily read it.

Never thought I would purchase electronic hearing protection for shooting, I was missing out. These work extremely good at the indoor range and outside , they really block out the loud sounds at a range. Very comfortable , battery life is good,as long as you shut them off when done using them, I believe they auto off after a certain time but I just do it when done shooting. Light weight , I like the design of the controls now that I am use to them but it took a few times. Yes I would purchase again.

Like: comfortable (got a big ole head) Directional (the Walker Slim Quad-Bluetooth had 4 mics but wasn't directional, heard everything equally)] Music/Sound definitely better than the Walker's Slim Quad w/ Bluetooth. Easy instructions. listening to music in the range is nice. Dislike: none (my first semi expensive earmuff) In a span of one week I bought 2 Walker's Electronic Earmuffs. 1) The Slim Quad w/ Bluetooth and then the EXCEL 500BT. I liked the concept of having Bluetooth so I bought the Quads first. But soon enough I didn't like that it was NOT Directional even though it had 4 mics. So I went online and found the EXCEL 500BT and bought them a few days after. Went to the range today and with double protection (earplugs + earmuff) the music will sound low. I removed the (standard orange) earplugs and just used the earmuffs and they did great.

I wanted to like them. They were a bit on the expensive side and they would stay paired with my phone. Everytime I powered it off, they would not connect to the phone anymore until I reset them and re-paired. I decided to return them rather than risk another pair

On the trap shooting range, allows you to listen to talking, but then suppresses the shotgun blasts effectively

Okay, after a year I've got to change my review. I did a lot of research prior and I thought these were winners but ultimately the poor bluetooth connection is a real buzz kill. When snowblowing I have to keep my phone in a breast pocket to keep clear connection! Under thick ski pants the connection cuts out. Other notes: the case is too small, you really need to stuff them to fit, and an only music function instead of constant mic amplifier would be great. One thing that I am impressed with is battery life.

I have a pair of mid priced Walkers and they are brilliant. I bought these new ones for the bluetooth connectivity, but......the volume control is such that people talking are very faint, whereas with the mid price Walkers voice is loud and clear. So buy Walkers, they are great, but go with the mid price.
