Brilliant 80's CD
I bought the CD mainly for the fantastic Voices track also; In the night... which both featured on the cult 80's series Miami Vice... check out the videos of both on the net, if your a fan of Miami Vice and Russ Ballard. Both Voices and In the night are evocative of the 80's zeitgeist, as is the rest of the album, Even though I bought the CD for 2 tracks the other tracks will grow on you too, like:- I can't hear you no more, Two silhouettes and A woman like you. All in all if you like typical 80's music you will like this album, also a must for Miami Vice fans too who will recognise the 2 tracks mentioned above :)

Something of a hidden gem.
Don't have this on cd, and my vinyl copy is stuck somewhere in a friend's house. Haven't heard it in ages, but i do remember that this is a really very good album. Russ Ballard already had quite a decent career behind him, and this solo recording was released after the demise of Argent. (For whom he contributed a lot of their best songs.) Typically strong songwriting on this one, and excellent musicianship. (From what i can recall.) I forget which people helped him out. Well worth taking the time to acquaint yourself with this polished piece of work, so long as the price is right.

Apologies Russ, it's actually 4 and a half stars !!
I wholeheartedly agree with my fellow reviewer here. Russ Ballard has written many a hit, "I Don't Believe In Miracles" (Colin Blunstone); "Since You've Been Gone" (Rainbow) from his 2nd album "Winning" (which also gave us the beautiful "Song For Gayle" - written after seeing a BBC documentary about a girl leaving home and getting into a sad/bad situation); "So You Win Again" for Hot Chocolate amongst many others. He was also in Adam Faith's backing band at aged 14 or 15.Russ Ballard was and is a consumate musician and on this 1974 offering, he not only proved this but also his own ability as a songwriter. Indeed, he said himself at the time, he was bored with 15 minute songs with 10 minute solos and vowed to come up with an album of short pop songs. He did just that from the opening Little Richard-type piano intro of "She's A Hurricane, to the wonderful soft and melancholic "Venus Shine Your Light", Ballard really did come up with the goods here and typically of many artists, I don't think he ever improved upon this album which highlighted his talents (a la McCartney) as a drummer, bass player, guitarist, pianist/keyboard and harmonica player. He also co-wrote the brass arrangements and produced the album. No mean achievement methinks. He also laid down at the time two versions of the same song, "Danger Zone", one very poppy and one very bluesy (at the time, very innovative and something that is done as standard nowadays). He 'covers' his own "I Don't Believe In Miracles" but, the single from the album and one which could be definitely termed as "one that got away" was the side two opener, "Flyaway", just a wonderful pop single and so incredibly sad that it wasn't a hit.I can definitely recommend this album, an album full of what Ballard wanted to make at the time, a well crafted album of 3 to 4 minute pop songs.

One of his best
Excellent release from the man who gave us such tunes as 'Since You've Been Gone', 'New York Groove'. Great album With an extremely good backing band at the time (Mo Foster on Bass - wow). Good hard pop ditties abound on this album, and 'Voices' even appeared on in an episode of Miami Vice
