Astrosaurs destination danger
This is a fun, cartoonish story for young readers about the brave young plant-eating dinosaurs in space, and their efforts to escape the T-Rexes. In this story they are learning to be space cadets. While we meet opposing teams they learn teamwork and making friends.I think kids from six to eight are the ideal readers. This is an unbiased review.

excellent fun book; )
the first book in the astrosaurs academy series!we found this second hand in a charity shop or second hand bookshop, gave it a try, and really enjoyed it-i love the idea that the dinosaurs didn't die out, when they were knew the extinction was possible due to the asteroid that is thought to have wiped dinosaurs out 64 million years ago, they built space ships and went to live in space!understandably the herbivores kept out the way of the carnivores, so vegetarian dinosuars try to live separate from the meat eaters who have a taste for vegetarians......the DSS are heroes...defenders of the herbivores...and this book is Teggs, a young stegasaurus and others in training to be part of the DSS, with new friends Blink and Dutch, as well as other characters.......their first mission is their destination danger.....i'm not sure on the age range for this book, as i think it has the appeal for a variety of ages, from young kids who like dinosaurs to older kids that like dinosaurs, adventure, brave heroes and heroines.... also certain issues arising in the academy that are similar to kids (and adults!)lives.... just to take one example, the not being believed, but having the truth will out and shown to be telling the truth, was one, recognised as happened when i was a kid and an adult.....as was the bit of pyschological/emotional bullying and standing up for friends in these situations - all done in a subtle way, but i noticed and liked it....the books are a nice low price which i like, i'm not sure if this series are in the library, though there is an added incentive to buy the books due to the collector cards that are among the first pages that kids can cut out or keep in the book, with lots of facts about various characters (4 in each book)......my son's already asking to read Steve Coles other books like 'Cows in Action'..... and i'm looking forward to reading them too......

Hooked!
Our 4 year old son is completely hooked on the Astrosaurs Academy books. We'd had enough of reading picture books to him and decided that it was time to move onto something with chapters... will we can't read them quick enough for him. He remembers the stories and asks that we go back and read specific chapters. There are just enough pictures to use to back up / discuss the story. I can see that when he starts reading himself these will soon end up dog-eared from being read so many times. This morning he even said he'd had a dream about getting the next book (shame it's not out until February!)
