WD My Passport Ultra 1 TB Portable Hard Drive - Black/Grey

Pros:1) WD utilities for hard drive diagnostics and disc checks;2) Reliable backup software;3) I had 3x 1Tb hard drives, now I have 1x 4Tb of the same size;4) Several different color choices if you want to buy several and distinguish them from the 1st glance;5) Noiseless;6) Reliable (pulled off cable during data transfer - no issues, no disc errors);7) I have 3 HDDs like this (black, gray & orange). Should I buy more? Yes!!!Cons:1) RPM is 5400, but you cannot blame the disc, it is industry standard for compact external HDDs;2) I do not think plastic case will survive drops from table to hard floors. It "screams" for soft thick shell, when it is plugged into PC;3) Glossy finish looks cool, but matte one would be more practical;Summary: it is time to sell your 1Tb drives and get 4x upgrade in different colors.

No sure about durability but everything else is fine and plenty of space for my backups. I guess this things has so many plates inside that when they spin you feel the vibration which is considerably more noticeable than a 1T version I have. But it does not bother me.

I think this is more expensive than it need be, and I chose it only because alternatives were subject to delays. Otherwise, you'd buy this product for its looks, which don't concern me.That said, it performs as described, including rapid data transfer.Any USB 3.0 device will connect to a USB 3.0 port, but only a few will deliver USB 3.0 data transfer speeds.

Purchased WD My Passport Ultra 4 TB in Black/Grey directly from Amazon UK. Product was defective from day one.When I received the product, I started to transfer my data over to this hard drive. After transferring about 150 GB of data an error message appeared: "can't read from the source file or disk". This prevented further files from being transferred. Strangely, when one file is deleted another could be transferred to take it's place. I decided to format the hard drive. But, the same thing happened again and I was unable to transfer beyond 150 GB of data. Having researched the issue online, I further ruled out any Windows permission based problems.I came to the conclusion that the hard drive itself was defective. I attempted to fix the issue by running the Windows Scan Disk program over night. The program was left over night but for some reason, even after 8 hours, it could not progress beyond scanning more than about 268 units.I decided it was time to give up and began to format the drive to erase the data on it before returning it to Amazon. However, the drive refused to format and after a few attempts an error message appeared stating that the drive could not be detected.Now, I am unable to return the drive due to there being personal information on it. A very expensive mistake. I will never buy another product from WD. Based on other reviews of this drive, this is not an isolated incident and there are definitely quality control issues with WD external hard drive products.

I now have 3 in different colours and capacities and have never had a problem with any of them. Recommended.
