a must read for NHS staff
This book is well written and thought provoking. I have worked in the NHS for 42 years and feel sad that so many have been let down for no other reason than not being white!

Phenomenally written, a must read
I have followed this author for the last few years, and have read her columns online, in papers and medical journals. I was expecting the book to be good but it truly blew me away. This book is an absolute must read…. I almost wrote “a must read for any healthcare professional” (I am one) but I actually think it’s a must read for anyone. Anyone that lives in any society. It covers so much, in such perfect depth. It’s shocking and covers such a breadth of beyond shameful facts that govern our healthcare and social policies (ie those that affect us ALL).I cannot stop raving about it. I implore you to read it. I find non fiction challenging to get through, for the most part, but this is extremely readable, it’s beautifully paced, just like her columns.Hard recommend!

A thought provoking book
This is a well written and insightful book. It has changed my perception on the evolution of healthcare and I hope in the future it serves as a reference point when thinking about equity in healthcare. I also enjoyed the anecdotes which I feel are very relatable to many individuals

Thought provoking
This book made me think. There really is unconscious bias in medicine e.g. drugs only tested on males because the female hormone cycle could skew the results. It took thalidomide to wake people up to that risk. This book should be required reading for medical students.

Impeccable Writing and Life Saving Work…
I’m in awe with the author’s ability to convey true emotion and medical analysis in a way that doesn’t alienate non-medical professionals. This book is essential reading for anyone serious about dismantling racial inequality in the healthcare system and beyond. Thank you Dr. Annabel 🙏🏿

Incredible work
This is an area of health that has received very little attention. Disparities in care which are race, faith and skin based are widespread and impact all areas of health care. Dr Sowemimo draws critical attention and has developed a mature analysis of obstacles and underlying causes of historical and current racism within healthcare. As Dr Sowemimo describes, these pervasive attitudes continue to act as obstacles to care and draw suspicion from those impacted communities. Bravo, Dr Sowemimo - this is a must read for all in healthcare and especially for leaders and policy makers.
