Colin-Portrait Of A Brain Eater
The film starts with our protagonist Colin getting a rather nasty bite in the neck which leads to eventual death, followed by the inevitable living death. The viewer then spends the whole film accompanying Col as he gets accustomed to his new life, which consists of wandering the streets aimlessly(apparently!) only stopping to consume the occasional body part. We are also shown microcosms of human life surviving through the acopolyptic nightmare. It paints a bleak picture indeed, the very worst of human nature exposed, with Colin as our guide.First of all, just to mention the supposed micro budget. To be honest its immaterial as to whether the film cost four pound fifty, forty five quid etc as it was a very clever marketing campaign that enabled this inventive little film to get a decent release. I'm so glad that it did as its probably the best British zombie film I've seen, and quite an amazing achievement considering its budgetary limitations. There's no huge armies of the dead roaming the lands here, or CGI effects and big explosions. Instead we get a very personal little film, and a stroke of genius was to tell the story through the dead eyes of Colin. His eyes act as an unforgiving window into the post-apocolyptic world. Occasionally, the low budget does show through, mainly in the grainy filming(which adds to the appeal in my opinion) and some poor acting. Alistair Kirton is however superb in the title role. There are a couple of scenes which do elevate this film far above the generic zombie horror. One is the attack on the 'refuge', a very skillfully filmed sequence and another scene, a nightmarish little few minutes spent in a cellar, which hints at human exploitation of the dead for sexual gratification, and is extremely claustrophobic.I was so engrossed in the film that its relatively long running time passed very quickly, and the story turned full circle in a very clever final act. What I say is somebody give director Marc Price four thousand pounds immediately and I'm sure he'll deliver a masterpiece. He comes pretty close to doing so here. A brilliant, low budget triumph over its budgetary limitations. 5 out of 5

Not bad, not bad at all....
Colin is an ultra (ultra) low budget zombie movie. And to it's credit it's not half bad! It's surprisingly well acted and very atmospheric which is difficult to create on any budget, but in this they genuinely pull it off!The negatives, the camera quality is very poor, and I know, I know it was a crap camera and that's the point, but it really distracted me. The biggest downfall for this film though is in fact the directors choice to have shakey cam in EVERY bloody scene! It drives me crazy! A scene will be tense, and tight as a drum, and you'll be really intrigued and pulled in to the story, and then the shakey cam comes and and you're thrown back out lost, and back where you were five minutes ago!The positives, this concept is original and very fresh. I'm sure the likes of Romero and Rodriguez are sat at home kicking themselves! And because of this originality it creates a very unique and endearing narrative, that almost makes you love the Colin character and feel genuine empathy for the character. This film is no where near perfect, there are alot of faults. Having said that, despite my better judgement I loved Colin, it's new, original and very entertaining at times! A real, gory treat!

for some but not everyone
i really liked this film having watched a lot of zombie films both poor and awsome, and i thought this came in the pretty good area, its shot like the 'blair witch project' which suited the low budgetness of this film, it also has a lot of diffrent stories going on it (not all of them amazing and some of them good ideas but not thought out properly) so its not all about colin the zombie but whats happening around him aswell which for me makes it pretty good and a unique zombie flic.

Where Zombie Films Should Tread
It has been alluded in the past that George A. Romero once said that zombie films have about another good five years before Hollywood and the public tire of the genre. However, this does not seem to be the opinion George A. Romero has as of 2010 when he has been quoted by the Boston Globe as saying -- the genre is here to stay, and "I don't think it will ever die."Of course, Romero is more than a little biased, but I suspect that he must be excited about the abundant interest in zombies these last few years. And what an exciting time for zombies, especially when with a mere $75 dollar budget (Rumored), you too might earn a Cannes showing and $1 million dollar buy from a Japanese distributor (Rumored). This certainly was the case for a British-made zombie film called "Colin", which is an unconventional zombie-centric POV film that many fans of this genre have craved. A film with character versus the shock and mayhem we are often exposed to in this genre. I am not knocking the wildeye of the zombie apocalypse, but this introspective look into the death of a young man and his inevitable turn to zombie are reflected carefully and with instinctual specification from zombie eating behavior to the memories of his life before living undead. The pacing is neither tiresome or stuck in fast forward. Situations develop. They properly creep and shamble, dragging the viewer into the world of the zombie while emphasizing the emotional brutality and eccentricities of humankind and the undead. There is gore and brutality, but it is handled in a realistic and non over-the-top manner. The party scene in which we encounter a small band of humans fending off 20 or so zombies in an apartment is visually horrifying. In one particular instance, a young man is ripped from the clutches of his friend and dragged away into the horde. The tension, the will to survival cannot match the numbers and strength of the horde, but the young man hangs on to the bitter end. The pacing accentuates the tension and futility of struggling humans and the crack shot sound editing compliments the agony and gushing empathy the viewer will have toward the impending doomed fate of the young man. There is very little dialogue in this movie. There is more screaming, hissing, environmental noise, and background track, and this only serves to amplify the plight of the tiny corner of British civilization underseige by flesh eaters and supports the stark visualizations of our zombie's POV.I understand why this movie went to Cannes. It is a zombie movie that like Fido is a trailblazer in terms of where this genre is going. Just as zombies have evolved over time in film and other media, the zombie film itself has evolved. It's longevity can only be credited by the ability of this genre to change and adapt. I am personally excited to see where zombies venture forth in the future. The movie pays some homage to the movies that have come before it. Pay attention, to the shout out to Romero's "Day of the Dead's" Bub. Look for color reference. The solid backbone of this movie is it's very allegiance to follow this one character without falling prey to absurd cliche. With each frame he is relateable, primitive, and sympathetic. In order not to give the plot away, I am withholding a better explanation of what makes Colin so sympathetic.I leave you with this...The movie I believe begs us to ask ourselves some questions such as, "Are we that far removed from Zombies let alone animals and/or our primitive ancestry?" You be the judge.Excellent movie and one to own.

Good for what it is
I came across this as one of EW greatest zombi movies ever made. I have to say that I thought that the pool did not run very deep on the bottom end, but there were some in the middle that I had never heard of before and of course being a huge zombie fan,i just had to see for myself and this was on huge discount when i came across it so i thought that it just was meant to be. The movie is not mind blowing like the better zombie masterpieces, but I will say that being a cheap indie movie, it definately did have something to say for itself, and was a much better watch than any kiddie remake with wb stars that has come out in the past decade, and a step in the right direction for the future of horror movies, but I haven't heard anything about the director having a second project. Figures that hollywood wouldn't really give him a chance to succeed, but have no problem profiting off of this. The movie follows the "life" of a zombie after he is bitten and how he relates to the past parts of his life, people that he used to know, to establish that he has some sort of humanity, and then the raids by the real people that have so much hate towards the hords is meant to have the feeling as at the end of Night of the Living dead where the rednecks that kill our hero are more brain dead than the zombies, and you can see a level of decompure of society that has never been seen in a film of this type before, but its not as effective as past films, but at least it tries to be different. A for effort and originality.

Finally I am suprised...
I just watched this movie and I am still in awe!! When i heard the buzz about this 75$ wonder I thought I would check it out and be underwhelmed as I am with so many films made in this low attention span, fast food culture we live in. Thank god i was wrong. This film suprised me on all levels. This is the best zombie film since NOTLD. THe kids who made this film are the future of horror movie making, and i hope some studio will give them tons of money and let them make more films, equally as incredible as this one.
