JessEm 08359 Weekend Hobbyist Stainless Dowelling Jig Package with All Sizes, 1 Angle, and Wall Bracket

This is one awesome dowel jig. I had a cheap one and now I see why you pay a little extra for a quality piece.

It's a great tool and a great value. It would be better if it would have come with stop collars for the drill bits, however; I could order a set of those for just a few pennies. It would also be good if it had a built-in clamp, but that is also a little thing. I like the wall-mountable storage rack that helps keep track of things.

From watching many YouTube woodworking videos it seemed the Festool Domino was a requirement for my woodworking journey. This isn't a Domino, but it quickly made me realize a Domino isn't necessary.This tool makes it incredibly simple to align multiple dowels, even in a grid pattern. The result, when combined with glue, is exceptionally strong joinery without any visible fasteners. The quality of the tool is exceptional and the wall mount bracket to hold all of the pieces is a nice inclusion.Pocket hole joinery is a little faster. With just a little more effort though, the outcome with this doweling jig quite a bit nicer.My only gripe, and it has nothing to do with this jig, is finding dowels that are the appropriate diameter in packs larger than can be found at the big box stores. A number of Amazon listings sell metric dowels that are passed off as imperial. They end up being undersized and unusable. Other bulk dowels I've found are slightly too large to the point they can't be hammered in. I've found myself drilling holes with the jig, then if needed, enlarging the holes with a bit 1/64" larger to allow the dowels to be tapped into the holes. Again, this isn't the jigs fault, just a trick to make dowel joinery a little easier.

Do your self a favor and buy this Stainless Steel Dowelling Jig, I like many here, I have bought several other jigs in search of the one, well you have found it, it is not as affordable as the others (if I add $ what I have spent on the other ones, it will most likely add to at least half of what this one cost), its quality and ease of use is remarkable.

Great quality as you would expect from jessem. Only difference I believe in this and the pro is you are using a different size whole you have to change the jig. I mean the only reason I could see somebody buying the pro rather than the hobby packaged is if you are constantly switching dowel sizes or your a business with multiple people needing to use it. But even then that would be if their drilling different size holes, They should offer a package with the drill bits so you dont have to buy them seperately.

Very please with the sturdiness of this jig, easy to use, and accurate!

I love the design of this doweling jig and the light weight, but the 3/8" plate was slightly warped and ruined my head board project. All the dowels had a slight cant to them that you don't see until it's glued up. Hopefully this is just a one off factory defect. I'm returning this jig and ordering the older jessem model. Hope it's better.
