Bargain Lighting
This LED bulb replaced a 500w security light which would have cost me a fortune top run. The difference between 500w & 10w in running costs is collosal over the winter months, let alone throughout the year.As other reviewers have mentioned, this doesn't really give out the light output that a more powerful halogen bulb would - but it's all down to the size of the area you need to illuminate, & your reason for lighting the area.As with all LED bulbs, they do not have the range of halogen bulbs due to nature & build. Halogen bulbs are concentrated light, which can be pointed to a specific area with the use of the rear reflector of the light unit. LED bulbs like this one can only have their light directed by the direction of the LED's themselves. Although this has 3 banks of LED's, the light is only directed at the angles of the 3 banks, so nothing hits the back of the reflector to bounce back to a focal point.Having said that, the pure white light that this gives out is adequete to light the smallish area where I need to see (about 10 metres from the light source). My reason for choosing this bulb (apart from the obvious saving in running costs), is that it gives plenty of light for when I need to lock or unlock my motorbike, fit & remove the cover in winter, & checking my bike & car are healthy before I go - as well as the security aspect of my vehicles. If I need to work on my bike or car, charge the batteries, etc, this light will give a sufficient amount of light to carry out tasks without straining to see what I'm doing. The bulb itself was easy to fit - just take out the original 500w halogen bulb (push it to one side & remove), then fit the LED bulb by doing the reverse. It did say in the instruction manual of my security light that a minimum 100w bulb should be fitted, (it didn't say why, but I presumed it was something to do with a ballast requirement), but this 10w bulb worked perfectly straight away. So, to summarise, if you don't need a huge area covering with light & if you don't need to dazzle everyone that the light is pointing at, then this could very well be the bulb for you. At £10.99 (this is what it cost me - & Free delivery), this will give you a saving in a very short space of time. Recommended :)

Energy saving at a cost
I have a 'compact' PIR security light with limited room inside. I had to remove the reflector to free up enough space for this bulb.I have fitted the bulb but because of the design of both the bulb and the light fitting the lower bank of LEDs is obscured by the light fitting and contributing little to the light output. It would probably be better in a standard design rectangular light with more interior space.Having said that the light is working and illuminated the patio and some of the garden sufficiently to spot intruders and walk around without falling over stuff even with 1/3 of the light missing.I know some people haven't been able to fit this bulb, probably not wishing to cannibalise a perfectly good light but with this bulb the reflector is somewhat redundant. It's just a pity that the contacts weren't positioned closer to the rear of the bulb.

Not as Bright, but Does the Job
I didn't expect this to be as bright as a 500w QH, and it isn't. At ten watts, I would expect about 100w equivalence with an LED, and I'd say that's what it does. But, its perfectly good for my purposes, and I no longer need to count the cost of cats sunbathing under the floodlight at midnight. Its a straight replacement for the QH bulb, and in my fitting, the sensor still works exactly the same. If you have an override on the movement sensor, you could run one of these for hours every night without noticeably increasing your electricity bill. I look forward to more powerful LED 'bulbs', which are surely the future of lighting, but I'm very happy with this one.

Not quite a small sun but bright enough for my garden
A great lamp, cheaper than buying a whole new security spotlight. It emits plenty of light more than enough to light up our smallish garden, the light is instant, no waiting as it warms up until it emits at it's brightest.I was more than impressed with the light it emits, I did have a slight issue on the first use where the top row of LED's didn't come on but when I checked it again they were on so not sure why/what caused that.Would recommend

Didn't fit in all my light fittings
I ordered two of these to replace some expensive halogen lamps for some outside light fittings but they only fitted in one of the two I wanted to exchange the lamps for. They touch the back of the light housing before the pins could line-up correctly to engage the lamps. So disappointed that I will only be able to use them on one of the light fittings.

Don't expect it to compare to halogen brightness
I replaced a 400w halogen with this one. The 400w was like a summers day in that it was hot and lit up the whole garden and then some. This LED version is more like a winters afternoon as it gives off a cold light and not much of it. I'm not complaining as the halogen was daft for my purpose but I would have liked a bit more light from this one. If buying again I would get the 20w version.

ok
I have used these in a couple of different situations and as a replacement flood light no not really. unfortunately they are just not bright enough. They are perfect if you DON'T need to light up a yard only or a small area or if you want to get out of a car or into a shed or as I am using them to highlight area's in a workshop over pieces of equipment . I will still use these in future for customers under the understanding how much light they give off. The plus side it's only 10 watts and should last a long time
