At first glance
Just received this book a few hours ago. I love to read cookbooks and tend to collect quite a few, so I was eager to have a reasonable look at this one as soon as I received it. While considering whether to buy it or not I read many of the reviews posted and was intrigued by one reviewer who indicated that the book’s index at the back of the book was unreliable. I looked at a few of the recipes, then turned to the index. I found, as did the other reviewer, that the index is unreliable, often directing a person to the totally wrong page number. This does detract from the usefulness of the book somewhat. The book I received is a second edition, and I suspect that when the authors re-edited the book that they forgot to re-edit the index as well. Hope the authors attend to correcting the index very soon.I will be trying out some of the recipes in the next few weeks, and will see what I think of them.

2nd Edition left out my favorite recipe
Here's the deal: I'm kind of a cookbook nerd. Every so often I decide to explore a new cuisine or technique. I go to the public library and check out half a dozen cookbooks and try a few recipes from each. If I end up loving the recipes I try, I will usually buy the book. This was one of a couple of favorites about Mediterranean cooking. The other one I liked was the America's Test Kitchen book. I checked them both out again to have sort of a cook-off, and decided on this one because the recipes are simpler and easier to cook, but still fresh and tasty. One of my favorite recipes was Smoked Salmon and Arugula Salad, which was so delicious it was likely the deciding factor in my decision to buy this book. So imagine my chagrin when I opened my new-and-improved 2nd edition copy of the cookbook, only to find that the recipe had been deleted! I mean, why would a publisher or an author do this? Did they want to add something else and decide the extra piece of paper was too expensive to include in the book? Bottom line: I still recommend the book, but if you're basing your decision to buy it on a 1st edition copy, you may be sorely disappointed. I checked out the 1st edition one last time to copy the missing recipe and compared the two. I was shocked to find there are 15 recipes missing from the 2nd edition!

Great recipes ...
I've only started using this book this week and the couple of recipes I've tried have been delicious. However, the Paella recipe, on page 319, tells you to add garlic but there is no garlic memtioned in the ingredients listing. I had to find other resources for Paella and compare them to the amounts in this recipe to find the amount of garlic to add. Other than that...so far...I'm enjoying this book.

Educational as well as great recipes
I used this book to help develop healthier, well rounded, sustainable eating habits after dropping some major weight from a radical diet. The book teaches what is wrong with our traditional American diet. It has a sample menu for a week and many recipes. Stuff I actually am willing to make and eat as opposed to a lot of the other Mediterranean cookbooks I've read. Will broaden your horizons to cook with new ingredients that you may have overlooked before. Easy to read, will motivate you to a healthier lifestyle. I checked it out from the local library first and decided it was a keeper.

Easy to follow cookbook!
By far, one of the easiest books to read and follow. The beginning of the book starts off with a great explanation/overview of why the Mediterranean diet is a great diet. AND it makes sense. I have rheumatoid arthritis and it has tremendously helped (along with supplements) to keep my pain in check. The cookbook offers pictures for some of the recipes. Each recipe is easy to follow too. I have three young children and it has recipes that are quick and others that are for at home date nights to do together. Overall, an excellent cookbook!! I even bought one for my aunt who also has RA and she loves it!! Highly recommend!!

Helpful reference - bad index
I was told by my Dr to use the Mediterranean diet to get cholesterol numbers down. It was hard to find anything that helped to understand what the Mediterranean diet for healthful eating was and had easy recipes to help get started. So far, this book is helping me with that. My one complaint is that the Index at the end of the book is off on almost all the recipes by 2 pages. Whoever edited this book, that is an annoyance when you use the index to try to find a recipe. Coming from the for dummies label, that surprised me. I only had the book a few minutes before I discovered this flaw

Not as promised
I like the book and it is very informative but it keeps referring to the colored photo section and there is NONE. The pictures would have been to look at for clarification and inspiration.
