This Stuff Works
Live in South Carolina, so the flies are literally a problem all year. This stuff actually works very well. Does leave a sticky residue, but it’s great under the eyes and other small ares.

If your horse hates flies you need this stuff
My previous princess pony hates flies. She has always been difficult to ride during the summer but this year she escalated to flinging herself to the ground and random bucking fits due to her can't even with the flies. I've tried covering her head to toe in fly gear, every fly spray known to man, and discussing with her the ridiculousness of her behavior. All to no avail. Someone took pity on me at an endurance ride where giant deer flies were trying to get me killed and loaned me their War Paint. It was the first time all summer I wasn't afraid of getting launched or sat on during our ride. Bought some the same day. It's a game changer. We don't need head to toe fly gear anymore. No more buying out the feed store's supply of fly spray. I'm telling you get your pony some war paint. You won't be sorry.

Works Best
War paint is the best product for pasture horses. Yes the product can attract dirt, but you don't need much and only once a week to 3 day intervals depending on fly load. I apply - sparingly - to cheeks, base of ears, forehead, dab on inside of leg just above knees and hocks, small swipe in center of belly. My horses are so relieved and relaxed especially when flies are biting. My mostly white Appy now has healthy eyes all Summer. Beats any fly spray.

It’s overly leaky, pours out!
This was a fabulous product to keep flys off my horse for days! The ones I’ve purchased at the local feed store were great!Sadly, this one is too liquified. It leaks everywhere. It literarily pours out while putting it on my horse. Gets all over everything! Had no problems with the roller aspect, until now.I won’t buy this on line anymore. I’d rather not have it all, than have the mess it makes.

Stays on and protects area from flies
I love this as it lasts longer than swat on those sores or areas where you need to keep flies off. I do think it would be better in a jar as it gets pretty oozy and the deodorant type contains gets to be quite messy. I put in a tub and ended up using a tongue depressor to apply. I also have used this for years and feel like it’s a little less sticky and thinner Which is what I loved about it previously Still lasts longer than anything else.

Helps with flies, just not perfect - nothing is
I have a head shaking Paint who is the worst fly bait I've seen. She has thin pink skin and a fine coat, so flies torment her all summer. It's entirely too hot for fly sheets, and she cannot wear a fly mask without triggering head shaking. War Paint under the eyes is the best prevention I've found for flies around her eyes. I also use it behind the girth on her belly to help with flies feeding on the midline. Poor thing.

Not as effective nor easy to use anymore!
Used to I would give War Paint 5 Stars. There must have been a change in formula in the last year or so and now it is a drippy gummy mess that doesn't seem to deter the bugs like before. Used to it would dry and stay on for at least a week to 2 weeks or more and be very effective. Then if you need to spiff up your horse you could just brush it out as a dust like material. Now it hangs in sticky tags that are impossible to get out of the hair even after it loses its effectiveness. And there seems to sometimes be hair loss where applied. It seems that it is effective for only a week or less. I really used to like War Paint as I have many horses surrounded by lots of neighboring cows that bring in biting flies. It used to really help I hope that War Paint will look at their formula and improve it to the quality, consistency, and effectiveness that it used to have.

Its the best
I know you are thinking this stuff is expensive, but let me tell you! We have eight horses out on pasture and we smear this on the points of the horse that is recommended, and the flies stay off them for a week at a time. It saves us money and hassle and the horses are so much more comfortable. It is easy to apply and now we don't have to chase the horses that are sensitive to spray bottles. I will have this in my tack box ALWAYS.
