Limited blue and white colored vinyl LP pressing. The Black Dahlia Murder's seminal third album Nocturnal was originally issued on Metal Blade Records in September of 2007. Nocturnal was the band's first to feature the potent new rhythm section with incoming bassist Bart Williams and drummer Shannon Lucas, who had just exited All That Remains. It's also the last album to feature longtime guitarist John Kempainen. Chock full of flesh searing riffage, mind-bending guitar solos, and disgustingly poetic gore soaked lyricism, Nocturnal finds The Black Dahlia at their most violent while never compromising the melodicism that they've become synonymous with. Home to the signature standouts "Everything Went Black" and "I Worship Only What You Bleed."

PERFECTION
This is one of my favorite albums of all time. There is not a single bad song on this album. I've had a digital version for years, but I wanted a physical copy (I like keeping physicals of my favorites) and it's perfect.Essential metal listening, essential BDM album. Perfection.

Melodic death metal at its best.
Nocturnal by the Black Dahlia Murder to me is the pinnacle of all melodic death metal albums. Now their are many, many more bands out their than can crush this group. I shall not deny that, But this was the first melo death album i had ever listened to when i was 14 and i loved it. I had to have it. Six years later i finally got it. And even though i know all the songs. They still are amazing to hear over and over again even that many years later. Guitar work is top notch and their are some beautiful riffs on here that destroy me many a time. The drums are intense and amazing, flowing with the album as a whole. But honestly what sets this album apart for me from many other death metal bands. Is the fact that this albums vocalist does a predominately high pitched shriek, compared to the traditional growl. I do not like death growls at all. So whenever i can get to listen to a death metal band with high vocals i love it. Its a shame how short this cd is. I wish it was longer, because it goes by too fast. I recommend you check this out if what i said appeals to you. And if not. Thank you for the read.

A Solid Offering
This release is just what you'd expect from one of America's best Death Metal bands, with lightning fast guitars, dual-vocals, and killer riffs. I was a little unsure about the packaging concept with album, though. With bands out there like Behemoth and Gorgoroth, who take themselves and their "evilness" so seriously that they can be downright comical at times, I was somewhat surprised by Nocturnal's Black Metal look. While it looks pretty cool, I'm somewhat suspicious of its sincerity. While a little predictable in my opinion, this album far from disappoints. Darkness Spawned simply crushes, while seemingly speeding by without giving you a chance to breath. The surprise track is To Breathless Oblivion, with its epic scope and sweeping guitar lines. Black Dahlia has a bad habit of holding all their cords for the same amount of time on every song, while the cords on this song are held longer giving it a more epic feel. It also has the best lead on the album. For these reasons, this track stands head and shoulders above the rest of the album. I think Nocturnal would have flowed a little better had this track been the closer instead of Warborn, which is somewhat overshadowed by To Breathless Oblivion, despite its unique 3/4 section towards the end. However, there is much here that needs multiple listens to fully digest - another excellent trait of this band. The production on this album is an improvement over Miasma in the same proportion as Miasma was over Unhallowed, and the tone of Nocturnal is darker than both - a big improvement in my book. While the packaging art is certainly a "new" step for Black Dahlia, Nocturnal really doesn't deviate much from Miasma. Judging from the fact that there seems to be a new Black Dahlia clone every week, I can't really blame them for sticking to their guns. But for my money, I'd like to see Black Dahlia take a chance with their forth album. With two excellent releases in their discography, this album is a little safe for my taste.

American Death Metal at it's best
How in the world did TBDM ever get lumped in to deathcore I will never know. Not one breakdown or pig squeal on this whole album. Or any other album from them. Melodic death metal?? I will buy that. Nocturnal is a quick album. Clocking in at 34 minutes and some change. The record starts off with Everything Went Black and is actually very catchy. The very next track. What A Horrible Night To Have A Curse definitely shows off Trevor's vocal capabilities. Deathmask Divine has awesome soloing and shows off the talent that they are becoming very well known for. Of Darkness Spawned has some heavy catchy riffs. With Nocturnal, The Black Dahlia Murder are actually caught between Gothenburg Death Metal and early eighties thrash. Tons of influences here and they are quickly flexing their death metal muscle. Excellent band and definitely proving to be one of the best death metal bands in the modern era. \m/
