KraulDeluxe Shadows in The Woods - Board Game for 2 Players, Ages 5+ with Adult Supervision

Absolutely brilliant game! We reserve it for special occasions during the winter...it's a Christmas tradition in our house. My chilren love the danger of the candle which really makes the game so exciting, they are very vigilant and I laugh a lot while we play. (They are 3,6,8) I think you need to use your imagination and adapt the rules to suit your family...Kraul toys are all about open ended investigation. The self assembly is part of the joy...a board game where you can customise your game piece!? Brilliant. We highly recommend this toy and worth every penny, we will be playing this game for many, many years.

We play this near bedtime with kids as young as 3. They adore it.It can get a bit tiresome for the parent who is chasing, who spends a lot of time isolated, but its great. Completely different to any other game your kids are likely to play and simple too. Everyone we know who's played it with us has then bought it themselves.

An interesting and original idea, but not really worked out the details.For example; in order to make it dark enough to see the shadows it was then too dark to see the dwarves and we had to use a torch to find and move them.Also the candle really doesn't burn bright enough to create clear shadows of multiple trees as is needed for the game.Because of these troubles it isn't really suitable for younger children(my bright 5yr old just likes to move the dwarves and candle to her own rules now)Also the dwarves beards will never be glued on in our house, I'm disabled and its far too fidddley to hand over to the 5yrold(why not assemble them before?the game cost enough to not have the buyer assemble the pieces).Likewise the trees.Fiddly to assemble and take apart each time.A really charming and quirky idea, but sadly, not worth anywhere near the money.These are glitches the maker should have ironed out before releasing to production

Very hard to get the room dark enough for the candle to cast a clear enough shadow. You literally need blackout curtains to play in the day and it would have to be the middle of the night to achieve enough darkness. This has limited the enjoyment we have had as children cannot play it in the day and are rarely up late enough. Also cellophane was ripped of the box so if it had been for a gift it looked a bit tatty.Shame as had heard good things about this game which in principle is exciting and great for a family or group of kids.
