Hidden Paradise: Artist Edition - Adult Coloring Book Spiral-bound – December 5, 2017

The media could not be loaded.  This is my first coloring book by artist Cris Lopez. I'm very impressed with the skill with which the designs have been drawn and look forward to many happy hours with this book.There are lovely maidens, handsome men, fairies, animals, mermaids, fun creatures and even a dwelling place. It is all about the variety of fantasy in this land that the artist calls “hidden paradise”. The level of detail varies by design with some slightly less detailed, most what I consider a good amount of detail and a few that have smaller and/or more intricate areas to color.Once again, Phoenix Amulet (the publisher) has set a high bar for other publishers to emulate. Not only is the paper a good heavy weight, it also has great tooth, is printed one-sided, has excellent perforations and, best of all, has a covered spiral binding that makes opening and laying this book flat a breeze.This is what I found in coloring in this book and testing my coloring medium on the paper45 Fantasy/Magical inspired designsPrinted on one side of the pagePaper is white, medium/heavy weight, rough with excellent tooth and perforated pagesBinding is spiral with the cover protecting the spiral.The book lays flat in the open position for ease of coloring.The designs stop short of the perforations and removing pages is very easy if you wish to do so. There are unfinished elements at most if not all edges of the pageAlcohol based markers bleed through this paper. If you use this coloring medium, I highly suggest that you either remove pages before coloring, or as I do, use card stock or several sheets of paper as a blotter below the working page. That will keep the pages or the surface below from being marred. My copy of the book included a piece of chipboard that could be used for this purpose.Water based markers, India ink pens and gel pens do not bleed through the paper though some left the slight shadow of the back of the page.Coloring pencils extremely worked well. The paper is definitely rough to the touch and has excellent tooth for pencils. Both oil and wax based pencils worked very well for providing good pigment. I was able to layer the same color for deeper tones, layer multiple colors and to blend easily using a pencil style blending stick as well as wet blending medium for excellent results.

First things first! I bought this book, because I have gotten several others from Phoenix Amulet and was impressed with their workmanship! The quality of the paper makes my elementary coloring skills take wings and fly! It seems with the artists they publish I can do no wrong on paper! Love them!Now to the book in question, Hidden Paradise. I won't beat the same drum here, but I will echo all the other sensible reviewers. This is a fun, fun, fun book to color in!!!! As soon as I got it, I popped it open and began coloring! I couldn't stop! I did three pictures in one night -- OK, night and day! But the point being I didn't want to put it down!AND NEITHER WILL YOU!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this coloring book!!! I wanted a book that would challenge me in coloring faces and this book certainly does that. I really have had fun coloring in it. The drawings are interesting, challenging, with lots of detail, but not so much that I feel overwhelmed by it. The paper is thick, they include a piece of cardboard to place behind the one you are working on. That's great if you're using markers. I use a mixture of colored pencils, and gel pens, but I make sure the cardboard is behind my project. If I do any burnishing, (and I usually do,) the cardboard protects the page behind it, so it doesn't pick up any pencil marks. If I could change anything about the book, I would maybe use paper that was just a little less toothy.

This book is beautiful, I want to color every picture. There's line art, some greyscale.Best Medusa that I've seen so far. It has very thick toothy paper. My book came in a box and they placed a piece of cardboard under the cover to prevent the corners from being smooshed under the plastic wrap. It is the same size as Fantashia, but it has pictures on one side of the paper. That means we can use alcohol markers, water paint, anything goes and they provided the peice of cardboard to protect the next page. I'm just keeping it under the cover. The book is spiral bound. The cover is one piece with the spirals attached on the back. The way the cover folds you can put it in your book shelf and read the pseudospine. I give this coloring book 5 gigantic stars.

Beautiful pictures filled with details and nice paper .

I have almost completed this gorgeous coloring book. I purchased it to give to my son as a coffee table book because he is so fond of my art! All pics are one sided and the paper is card stock and wonderful for wet or dry media! I absolutely love this artist! This book has such a variety of pictures which is the reason I bought it! I am thrilled with the results. Lays flat when opened. What a joy to color/paint in!

This coloring book is absolute heaven! The pages are beautifully illustrated. The paper is nice and thick. The images are single sided so you are free to use any medium you want to color these lovely pictures as long as you put something behind so you don't bleed through onto the next image. This book is also spiral bound! Every colorist should have this book in their collection!

I’ve wanted this book for months & I finally got it. The postman delivered it minutes ago. I’d seen some preview pics from it & loved them. I absolutely love this book. The paper is wonderful. It’s nice & thick but it also has some tooth which is great for colored pencils. The illustrations are truly beautiful. I hope Cris considers publishing another coloring book!! I’ll definitely be buying that too if she does.
