Pretty shallow coverage of the history of Naval warfare
OK book. Pretty shallow coverage of the history of Naval warfare, but easy to read. A good primer for those that might be looking for a general overview.

Naval Warfare
This book covers a huge amount history. The work has some draw backs, however. The battle maps are not detailed, and does little to assist the reader comprehend the battle. The writing style feels as though this book is written for an elementary school level reader. Lastly, the final chapters on modern Naval warfare are short. The final sections leaves one with the thought that much history and detail has been been covered in broad strokes and somehow the reader has been short changed. The positve side of the work is that because of what I did read, the subject moved my interest and this reader is looking for another work on the subject of Naval Techniques, statery, and warfare. Final word? Look for another detailed book.

Not Impressed.
I just bought and received this book, hoping that it would prove to be a good resource for my own endeavours, but a cursory flip-through of the text has me regretting my purchase. It appears to be nothing more than a broad overview and is written "down" to the layperson with little real discussion of what the strategies were that resulted in some of the featured naval victories. The final injustice, though, is a diagram on Page 125 that is breathtakingly incorrect; not only does this diagram have "port" and "starboard" reversed, but for the time period which this diagram references, the "port" side of the ship was called "larboard." If the author and editor of this book can't even get a basic drawing correct, it's hard to grant any trust and respect to the rest of the text. There are far better books out there on naval warfare. Save your money.
