Crane Bell Mini Suzu Aluminium Bicycle Bell with Steel Band Mount

For a kid like me who's never grown up and is still stuck in the 60's and 70's this is what a decent cycle bell looks like and (in this case) sounds like. This is a quality dinger and I love having it on my handlebars - note that it's set up for use by the left thumb - so it goes on the left side of the handlebars. Sadly, despite my enthusiasm, I should deduct a star on account of the silly little bracket the bell sits on - the only handlebars this bracket will comfortable fit are those on my 1962 Triang Tricycle. The only way I could get this bell to sit on the 1.25" diameter bars on my most recent bike was to perform surgery on the bracket with some serious grown-up tools. However. the quality of the bell and its sound far outweighs the deficiencies of the bracket.

This bell is extremely effective. It had a loud, clear tone. It is a small bell, but it gets the point across very effectively!It rings effectively in the rain.Because the striker lever is horizontal, it has to be placed the right distance from the handle grip or else it will be harder to ring.It’s hard to overstate how loud and clear this bell is. It is very effective.

I never wanted to fit a bell to any of my bikes (apart from that Raleigh Pavemaster I had as a child in the early sixties, but then this also had stabilisers too, so a bell was hardly going to spoil its racy lines) but recently and reluctantly fitted one to my commuting/touring machine after growing tired of grumpy responses to my polite and friendly 'Excuse me, please' from dog walkers and pedestrians who use one of the cycle paths my regular route into town crosses.. (although to be fair, in retrospect I guess I probably do sound a bit like Steve Coogan in 'The Parole Officer' and of course many of us cyclists are d*cks, it's well known). It is slightly harder to take offence at a neutral 'ding'. Anyway, this bell; tasteful retro style. Small and unobtrusive (relative to bigger style bells) and nice clear, positive tone. And doesn't look too out of place on the bars of my Surly.

Well made with a loud sharp ring would recomend.

It's a simple bell. It's loud enough and high pitch enough for everyone to be able to hear it. And you can fit it incredibly easily.

EDIT: This bell was great, until it wasn't. The bike or bell was never dropped, but it developed a crack right up the center of the bell. Now it is ruined, it doesn't ring at all any more. Useless. The bell lasted maybe 3 months, oh well...I've tried a number of cheap bells and this wins hands down. I never would have thought there would be a huge difference in the volume across different bells, but this one is unbelievably loud. Pedestrians notice whether they have earphones or not, drivers noticed even in very well insulated modern cars. A must for any commuters out there.The only gripe I have about this Suzu-Mini is the mount. The mount appears to be made for a handlebar as wide as my finger, and not any normal bike. I had to use cable ties to fix it to my Giant Contend SL Disc. But it's solid and works well. As an added bonus the bell does not rattle or ring over rough terrain.
