Q: does this boot have room to spare around calf? Mine is 43” but shoe size 6-6.5. Size 7 would be too big for foot.

It is not a generous calf width it depends on what trousers you might wear, I wear thin leggings type for dog walking so ok anything too thick bulky jeans etc might be a bit tight. I normally buy size 6 or 6.5 but because I intended wearing thick socks got the 7 but they are roomy so also use a insole. Lovely and warm feel good quality and look the part. Hope this helps
