Excellent device. I have used it to build my own smart home system and it just works as I expected.

The module as such worked OK... I used the Domoticz iso on the Raspberry to use it. Started of by testing the application supplied by vendor but did not meet my expectations. Tried a few more (HomeGenie, etc) before going for Domoticz that was easy to install and met my expectations.

If it works at all it is unreliable and has terrible range.
I bought one of these and it simply didn't work, it had terrible range and I had to return it. I had a replacement shipped out and this didn't even work at all, the radio wasn't detected by the Raspberry Pi, after much back and forth with support in the end I simply returned it for a refund and bought an alternative Z-Wave controller. If you like to tinker and tear your hair out then this is perhaps the product for you, if however you'd like a Z-Wave network that actually works then I would look elsewhere.

I don't know whose fault this is, but I received the USA version. I ordered from UK, and the image on this page clearly shows the chips with "E" as the region. This morning, I noticed the chip shows a "U" on my version. Very unfortunate... The frequencies are different. As a result, I spent weeks (on and off) trying to figure out how to pair my devices.

Does what is expected to do
Firstly I had a range problem. After some researches and modifications I managed to increase the range.

fully functioning z-wave controller, for someone with or learning to brush up on their R-Pi skills
It works, but it takes some work to get there. You'll be well used to debugging software installs on your Raspberry PI by the time you get this working. The UI software from zwave-me takes a bit of getting used to, but it lets you see all the workings of the z-wave protocol, unlike some of the other controller options, e.g. SmartThings hub. If youz-wave.me RaZberry - peripheral controllers (Z-Wave) don't like the zwave-me web interface there are plenty of free iOS/Android apps that you can use when you're out and about. With so many vendors selling this, why doesn't one of them put up a proper description of this product? (e.g. Can be controlled by any Z-Wave controller is not quite true - it is a Z-Wave controller itself.)
