Extremely sharp and hard tough plastic bristles. Do not buy this at all.
The media could not be loaded. First of all I did not imagine it to be this ugly shade of blue. Next, it looks longer in the pics than in real. Finally, I can't understand why the bristles need to be so sharp. This will definitely hurt the cats. Both my cats hate it after just one time of rubbing themselves against it. I threw the packaging and can't even return it now. Just gonna throw it away.
