Review: Gentle. Good product. - Good toothpaste- Gentle on gums.
Review: Current revision works great! A brief history of Pro-Health sensitivity toothpastes.. - About 5 years ago, I started noticing an increase in hot/cold sensitivity on my furthest back bottom molars on one side. This started occurring almost immediately after a dentist visit, which I'm assuming was due to a combination of enamel erosion from nighttime acid reflux further worsened by an overly abrasive dental cleaning. My dentist essentially said that everything looked fine and healthy without suggesting any further solutions, so I gave the original version of this toothpaste a try since it was only a few bucks at the time. To my amazement, after the first brushing, I could immediately notice a significant decrease in sensitivity and after a week or two of twice-daily brushing, the sensitivity was completely gone! To make matters with this toothpaste unnecessarily confusing, the very first version I tried was called "Crest Pro-Health Sensitive & Enamel Shield" (not "Advanced") which came in a lighter blue packaging, had an unusual but interesting and enjoyable teaberry flavor (aka American Wintergreen) and had a very smooth texture. This version was the best and I bought many boxes of it over the years until Crest decided to reformulate it for some reason. The 2nd version had the exact same name and packaging, a slightly less smooth texture and more of a regular "minty" taste. Unfortunately, this version didn't seem to work quite as well for sensitivity, but after it started becoming harder to find at retailers, it still worked better than other Stannous Fluoride pastes from Crest's newest Pro-Health Advanced line-up (including their much more expensive ones like "Pro-Health Gum & Sensitive"). My teeth have always been somewhat sensitive to many whitening agents used in toothpastes, so I'm guessing that's partly the difference. Fast-forward to today, and while that exact same "Sensitivity & Enamel Shield" is still listed as a current product on Crest's own website, it is simply not available to purchase anywhere and Crest customer care informed me that it had been discontinued. Having come across this particular listing at desertcart with the old name still being shown, I decided to spend $5 to try "Crest Pro-Health Advanced Sensitive Relief" (which wasn't suggested by Crest or even listed any where on their website). As pictured, it came in darker blue packaging (with "Advanced") but had "Sensitive Relief" in the same light pink shield/rectangle that used to say "Sensitive & Enamel Shield" and all of the primary listed benefits appeared to be the same or very similar. Essentially, this is the 3rd reformulation, but so far, it seems to work just as well as the original. The flavor is again different and even mintier, but with a slight touch of the original teaberry flavor. The texture is now more of a coarse, slightly gritty gel, which I dislike more than the other versions, but it does seem to leave me teeth feeling smoother and more polished, so that's fine. It also seems to have a slight baking soda taste and level of foaming (which isn't as great as "Pro-Health Gum & Enamel Restore", but works well enough). All in all, I will gladly continue buying this product forever, but after seeing so many reformulations, repackaging and just all around difficulty trying to purchase this toothpaste during the past 5 years, I'm very leery about patronizing a manufacturer that creates an amazingly good product and can't stop messing with it or are unable to keep it stocked on store shelves. Other than that concern, my only other complaint would be the current pricing. I really see no reason why this newest version is $5 when all the other toothpastes in Crest's line-up are around $3. The original reason I even tried the first Crest formula was mostly because it was an affordable alternative to brands like Sensodyne and Crest's own Pro-Health "Gum" line-up, which are all pretty good in their own right.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this gel or toothpaste? The two are very different.**
A: This has a light blue paste.
- The Crest Team

**Q: Is its flavor a smooth mint gel or a fresh or clean mint gel?**
A: Our Pro-Health Advanced Sensitive & Enamel Shield Toothpaste provides an intense peppermint flavor.

**Q: Has anyone got teeth stains from this? As it uses stennous flouride, which may cause stains...**
A: It shouldn't. Their was supposed to be a change in formulation ~2006 which made previous issues, such as stains, largely moot.
I've been using stannous fluoride ~5 years at the suggestion us my dentist.
Keep in mind Stannous Fluoride (SnF2, or Tin(II) fluoride — there's a Wikipedia article) works a bit differently than the other fluorides.
Here's the relevant section from the abstract of a meta study which looked at the effects of SnF2 (DOI: 10.3390/biomimetics5030041:
"Results: From the results analyzed in this review, it could be shown that stannous fluoride does not present important contraindications, if not those commonly reported for fluorine. A meta-analysis on enamel loss has been conducted, it shows that SnF2 products provide better results with a p < 0.05 value. Conclusion: This compound could have significant effects in favor of erosion and recalcification of the enamel, on the biofilm formation, gingival inflammation, and in addition, it could be an important aid in the removal of tooth stains and halitosis."

**Q: question on crest toothpaste pro-health advanced sensitive & enamel shield screw top but shows flip top**
A: Screw top.
