Not a simple retrofit
The description did not mention how these are installed and the photos aren't all that clear. And there are no instructions with this set either. But looking at the side the screws start from (flat side) and the side the extra horizontal plate is on these are really for building a new gate or you will need to cut a little groove for the horizontal plate to slide into. The middle plate definitely increases the strength of these for holding up the gate. But this isn't a simple job to screw on on hinge set and will require extra work than anticipated. But they should make it sturdy.
