About the Startup Describe your product in 3 words.Security. Cheap. Simple. How did you come up with the idea for this product? The original inspiration for Korner came from a conversation I had with a couple who were considering home security. They were a dual-income couple, both college educated, renting an apartment, and they recently had a child. They had shopped around for home security for some time, yet they finally decided not to purchase anything because all the alternatives cost more than they were willing to pay. After hearing this story it struck me - if this dual-income, college educated couple can't afford home security, WHAT ABOUT EVERYBODY ELSE?!?What makes your product special? With setup in minutes, and a first year cost under $100, we are truly for everybody. We believe that home security should be available to everyone, not just the affluent. What has been the best part of your startup experience?Watching our baby grow up! It has been incredible to watch Korner grow from a concept on a napkin to a working product in real people's homes!

really easy to set up, discontinued product
Edit June 30th 2018:Do not buy. Korner will shut down their servers in 1 month..Original review:The product works as advertised, really easy to set up, the app is fine, got no issues with it. I attached the 3 sensors with no difficulties or issues. Seems reliable..However.. There is something off about the developer of this product.Their website is currently a mess (broken links, broken images), they don't seem to respond on social media any more and their app was last updated 24 February 2016. I don't know what it means. Maybe they believe the app is good enough as it is, or the company is no longer supporting their product.I just hope it doesn't turn out to be a pig in a poke.

good quality product. software, not so great.
I find that i only ever use it in doorbell mode since i dont want the postman to set it off and me be stuck somewhere without internet, unable to turn the alarm of while it annoys my neighbours. Also, the lack of an API makes this far less useful/interesting.

Good hardware and service let down by poor app
Discontinued service - no longer works!Original Korner review - 2016I backed Korner on Indiegogo back in 2014 and took delivery of my system - 1 Korner stick and 6 tags - in August 2015. So I've been using it for over 2 years now. The hardware is great and works really well and it's good value for money. The Korner cloud service is mostly reliable but there has been an increase in system outages, "stick missing" issues, false alerts and repeating arm/disarm push notifications since June/July 2016. Unfortunately when these service issues occur the system is useless and you cannot disable the alarm locally (via WiFi) without a connection to the Korner cloud. The only way to turn the alarm off in this scenario is to unplug it from the power whilst it's screaming at you! Plus the app becomes useless if the Korner servers aren't responding. This really needs some improvements:1. The Korner App should still launch and notify you that there's a problem with the server instead of just spinning away and never launching as it does currently.2. The App should be able to communicate directly with the Korner Stick to disable it in the event that there's a server problem.3. The servers should have failover/redundancy? For an alarm system this is really critical...Another thing to note is that the actual alarm (which is part of the stick which plugs in to your router) isn't very loud. We have the stick in the front room and can't even hear the alarm in the bedroom 1 1/2 floors above. Korner offer an extender which includes an additional alarm and that is probably required for any property larger than a small flat... I've yet to invest in the extender as I want to see some of the other issues fixed before I invest any more money in to Korner.Unfortunately there's been very little improvement to the Korner service in the last 2 years. No new features have been added and the company has been virtually silent on their future plans, despite repeated requests for updates from myself and other Korner customers on the support forums. The biggest issue with Korner is their very poor iOS app (iPhone and iPad). Based on the forums it appears the Android app isn't much better but I don't have any experience with it. Neither app is a proper, native app. They are just wrapper apps displaying a web view. The iOS app is extremely slow and buggy - taking 20 secs to launch each time you open it. It's been over 18 months since the last app update in Feb 2016, which actually introduced further bugs on the iPad. We really need an app that launches immediately, not after 20 seconds. It should have 3D touch support and a Notification Center widget for super quick access to enable/disable the alarm. Korner have stated that they are planning on developing native apps but haven't provided any kind of ETA.Korner promised various other features during and after the Indiegogo campaign and so far they have failed to deliver them. I wouldn't mind if they kept customers up-to-date and published a roadmap but instead their approach is total silence. For example when are we going to see the previously promised features such as:- Auto-arming/disarming based on geo-fencing of mobile devices- Alerts about doors/windows left open when arming the system- Custom push notification sound so that you actually hear the alert (the current sound is the same system sound that is used when receiving a voice mail on iOS and is really easy to miss)- Thirty party service connectivity e.g. HomeKit, IFTTT, an open API, etc.To summarise... The Korner hardware is good and really easy to install. The customer service is fair (not as good as it was when first launched - they mostly ignore any requests for updates or improvements) but the mobile apps are a big let down and the lack of updates and communication is extremely frustrating.I still like my Korner system and would recommend it to others looking for a budget system but I really want to see improvements such as a faster bug-free native app and additional features. I'm hoping we'll see some developments but after two years I’m not holding my breath. I’m always looking for a new system...

Save your money. Korner have given up.
I purchased this in their original indiegogo campaign back in June 2014. I've had it since around July 2015. Because I purchased early, I don't have to pay an annual fee, and I'm so glad! There's a number of things that makes this product pretty useless:1. The stick doesn't always sound a loud alarm, sometimes its a pathetic buzz and sometimes it's a properly loud alarm noise. Support have sent me two replacement sticks. The first was DOA and the second doesn't like to connect to the internet. Support just stopped talking to me after that. I guess I got a free (non-working) stick out of them!2. The app is awful. Despite promises of regular updates, the app hasn't been updated since February 2016, and all that update did was add referral program tracking... great! The app takes anywhere between 5 and 30 seconds to load on the latest iPhone. So you get to stand outside your house looking like a complete idiot staring at your phone. When the app does load, the arm/disarm button rarely works the first time, usually needing somewhere between 3 and 10 presses to actually activate.Constant notifications when there should just be one (I regularly get inundated with 'system has been armed' about 20 times).Despite multiple offers to help them beta test their app, they aren't interested.3. Don't expect any support.I have tickets open with support since my first week with them. When you remind them over twitter or email they'll send you an email pretending to care, but then they get bored and just stop talking to you. Just look at the support forums.. just people shouting into the void. It's such a shame because the product has so much promise, but it's clear that the Korner team over promised and under delivered, and are now struggling to keep up with demand. I strongly recommend you think twice about going with Korner - you'll have nothing but buyer's remorse and no sense of security.
