2.5 inch Lockdown Pin Encrypted External SATA HDD Enclosure

I bought this product in May 2012 and it seemed great for what I wanted. However bad build quality started to show after a few months and the USB3 cable connection becoming dodgy and the power connection started to become erratic. In order to use the drive I had to make sure that the cable was held totally still and fitted tightly. Eventually it failed to power up the drive altogether so after about a year Amazon agreed to replace with a brand new one. Similar problems started to develop within a few months and again within the year it failed. The build quality is evidently terrible and the product has to be handled with kid gloves. Amazon say that their warranty only covers one year from initial order. So if they send out a brand new replacement and it fails within the year but outside of the year of the initial order then, tough luck. My view is that the product looks great at first but that it's not built to last more than about a year of regular normal use.

The best HDD enclosure I have used. Build quality is excellent. The performance is very good, faster than some of the other, non-encrypted, enclosures I have used. The encryption does not noticeably effect the performance. It is compatible with all devices I have tried it on - from my laptop to a 'temperamental' USB media player which normally does not like any non-standard USB drives, like RAID. The security is good, data can not be read from the drive when it is removed from the case. It is simple to use, you plug it in, select initialise from the menu, set your pin code and off you go. When you plug it into any device it just asks you for the pin code and once you do that you are up and running. It is not recognised by the computer until the pin is entered. It can not be reinitialised unless the pin is entered. It costs a bit more than other USB enclosures, but a lot less than other secure enclosures. I would highly recommend this, it is worth paying a few extra £ for.

Very cool drive and works perfectly, but has build quality issues. I've had it for a year now, but six months after buying it the cable connection would fail and the drive would disconnect if it wasn't straight. Just a slight bend in the cable would make the disk disconnect. At first I thought it was a cable issue, so I bought a new USB 3.0 cable and had the same results. I kept using the drive, although in travel situations it was difficult to avoid some flexion in the disk connection. At one year in became unusable, only being able to use it if it's on a table completely untouched and with the cable in a specific position, any slight movement will make the drive disconnect. At this point I will replace it but I will buy another brand of drive case. Would be a great product if it was more durable.

Had this for over a year now. Used on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 without problems. Can't fault it. While you can get encryption software like freeOTFE, you have to remember to unmount the virtual drive. This is much more convenient, returning to a secure state when power is removed. Excellent.

If you have a 2.5" Sata Hard-drive sitting around collecting dust, it's worth buying this enclosure. It's very well made and has lots of features. I found the keyboard easy to use. As it can be used with any 2.5" Sata Hard-drive, I would recommend using a solid state drive (Weight, power, drop damage etc).

For data protection this device is excellent. I added a 2.5" hdd, followed the instructions and it worked perfectly. I have noticed that if the USB connector is disturbed (knocked or wiggled) then the device disconnects - so beware because the lead is quite stiff and substantial (with dual USB connectors if needed for extra power). The key pad is extremely good and responsive with no moving parts, so the enclosure is fully enclosed.

Only USB interfaced and powered device ! All you need is a USB connection to your PC and other devices for data transfer, reading, playback and also power-charging and all is so handy. Fitting the 2.5inch Sata HDD into the enclosure and afterwards setting it up is quite easy. USB3.0 speed is excellent and all data tranfer is so quick. Superb black cabinet with OLED display screen is cool and the AES256bit Encryption has been adopted by the US government as it says. Great piece of kit !
