The formation of the Republic of Ireland.
This was an excellent book not only on the 1916 Easter Rising but also what led to the formation of the Republic of Ireland. It was a great read on the people who fought for Independence, the treaty and the civil war which, when settled, formed the Republic.

It's Quite Well Done
If you are a fan of Irish history this story will definitely satisfy your need for information. It is written in such a way as to make the reader feel as if they are experiencing a first hand rendition of what actually happened over a hundred years ago. The story flows and the references provide historical support for all that is told. Some war hero's are commemorated with statues. Some, such as Gearoid O'Sullivan, quietly create a new future for their people and their country. Ms Scanlon did a great job of presenting the facet of Irish History that is Gearoid O'Sullivan. Read it you will enjoy it.

More understanding of Irish history.
I am a bit obsessive about understanding Irish history, a convoluted story of native culture, outside invasions, and colonial and religious exploitation. How Ireland went from being a conservative culture to very progressive in the space of 100 years is a complex story. This book helps by giving insights into the people who launched the Republic.

An unknown Irishman
The is is an interesting account of an important but relatively obscure leader of Irish at the beginning of the last century.
