Pittsburgh Forge 12 Piece Screw Extractor Set

I ordered this set to use specifically to take out some stripped screws, which makes sense given that it's a screw extractor set. I chose this one in particular as it had the drill bits to match the extractors, that way I could keep everything together.The two smallest bits broke the first time I used them. Snapped cleanly in half like they were toothpicks. I wasn't even laying into the drill like I thought I might have to in my attempt to get to the screws. As for the extractors themselves it took a good amount of effort to get everything to come out as it was supposed to. I don't know whether the heads were too far stripped for the extractors to do anything meaningful or that I applied too much torque, but I was only able to get the screw heads off, not the full body of the screws.The bottom line is I was thinking everything would be more durable than it ended up being and I feel as if from a quality perspective, it would be more than it actually was.

I had the same poor experience as others. The two smaller drill bits broke with very little pressure. The next size bit barely bored into the screw. I resorted to my own well worn drill bits and they cut quickly into the screw top. However, when I tried the extractor bits of various sizes, tapped them and turned them counterclockwise, as instructed, I couldn't get any to bite into the screw metal. I finally finished the job using my own drill bits to drill out enough metal so that I could lift the board that had been held down by the offending screw and used a hack saw to cut out the part of the screw that still protruded.

I tried to use this kit, but two of the drill bits ended up breaking off. I did eventually get deep enough to try one of the extractors, but it wasn't able to remove the broken off bolt.

I have not used the drill bits yet , but I have used the easy outs a few times already and they worked well at the house. This is what I do for a living at work. I would purchase them again if needed. I have not broke one yet , so so far so good .

I purchased this set because it has the recommended drill sizes for the extractors. this is a great set to have. very good craftsmanship and I would recommend anyone to purchase this set. the shipper was very prompt in shipping this item and was well packaged.
