Will Leave A Sting In The Tail
From The Master Of Disaster Himself Irwin Allen 1978 Brought Us The Swarm. To be fair This really was uncharted Territory for Irwin as up To That point his movies showcased Natural Disasters like The Poseidon Adventure and The Towering Inferno. with The Swarm Irwin looked To The animal kingdom for his next offering of big screen action entertainment. as expected by The Title The Swarm gave us Deadly African bees invading almost everything in sight. what you can say about The Swarm as with all of Irwin's movies it was star studded Henry Fonda, Richard Widmark, Olivia De Havilland, Katherine Ross, and our real intrepid star of The movie Michael Caine all saving The world against The Deadly killer bees. The Swarm as gained Quite a reputation over The years often cited as The worst film ever made looking back on it in This computer generated image age of movie making you know The Swarm isn't really That bad. The movie features some excellent set action scenes The attack by The bees on a Transcontinental Train for instance looking like something lifted straight out of 1978 Superman is very well done for The Time and The scenes with The bees covering bodies in Their attack is really Quite chilling for The Time it was made. perhaps maybe with The Swarm The fault can be Traced back To its lengthy running Time scenes featuring The lovely Katherine Ross spending Time in hospital surviving an attack by The bees Then we see her out and about saving The world again with her next scenes finding her back in her hospital bed sadly at Times confuse Though we are at The movies. probably why The Swarm as been seen in different edited versions including its original TV airings. fear not Though The version we have here is The full original uncut version including Miss Ross in and out of her hospital scenes. picture and sound on The Disc is really excellent for whatever its faults you won't see a cast like This in a movie again. a short behind The scenes feature on The movie completes your classic movie package let's just hope They Don't remake it They certainly won't better it and for That it's five stars.

NOT ALLEN'S BEST
Having just watched "The Poseidon Adventure" and not having seen this one for many years (I now know why), I thought i would give it a go. It's a reasonable price, and it can't be that bad, can it? Well it isn't "that bad", but it isn't very good. What went wrong. Ithink any blame can easily be laid at the feet of the script writers Sterlin Siliphant and the producer/director Irwin Allen. The scipt contains some horrendous dialogue and the direction desperatley needed svere editing. In an ideal world you should never be thinking "when is this film going to end?" There are of course a lot of good bits - the bad performences (Caine shouts a lot, Widmark snarls his way, and gives the best performence, Katherine Ross looks gorgeous, but others seem rather disinterested, and why did Jose Ferrer agree to a 2 minute cameo?) There is obviously a budget as the film looks good and there are several well filmed set pieces. Sadly the bad reviews are in the majority and are correct, but, if you suspend all belief, and just go with the flow, there is some fun to be had. THE DVD is Panavision (bars top and bottom), excellent colour, good sound and English Subtitles.

a B movie full of bees
I enjoyed this 1978 B movie by Irwin Allen. It had a stellar cast and quite a lot of action as well. It is not as good as some other movies by Irwin Allen such as "The Poseidon adventure" and "The Towering Inferno" but it is still a good watch.I bought the region 2 Dutch Import which is very good value for money seeing as the English version is expensive. The back cover is in Dutch but as soon as you put the disc in everything is in English and very easy to use. The film lasts 3 hours and has a trailer and a 20 minute making of which is interesting. Would really recommend.

Not to be taken seriously!
What a load of hokum. Fun, though! Other reviewers have criticised various performances but they seem to have missed the point that this is really a spoof - look at the graphics on the title screen and you get the hint, let alone Michael Caine's character and the fainting swooning Catherine Ross - clichés but deliberately so. Give it a break and watch without getting too high and mighty and it will be a good evening's entertainment.
