It doesn't have a hanger on it, but I added one. So, yes, it can be hung on the wall.

Q: Could you fit a matchbox/hot wheels car in this ?

Not sure it would depend on the size of the matchbox/hot wheels model. The inside measurement is 71/2 x 71/2 . Hope this helps

My shadow box is 18" X 18" & it is barely 1 inch deep.

Q: How does this frame open? Does the glass slide out or does it open all the way from the front or back?

The glass is fixed. The back opens off with little fold tabs
