Magic on steroids, best for children aged 10-12 years
The Double Trouble Society and the Worst Curseby Carrie Hope FletcherGenre: MagicAudience: Children, age 10-12 yearsRating: 3 stars out of 5This book is the second in the Double Trouble Society series. It is about a group of children who destroy a demon in their town.Positives of the book are the creativity in the setting and the characters. The setting is a town that is magical, thanks to the two witches who live in it. The characters are the children who are bold and enterprising, but also the children who turn out to be a werewolf, a vampire, and a boy who is haunted.Negatives are that the book is kiddy and can only be enjoyed if it is read as a farce. It has little literary merit: the narrative is all conversation and action with little description and atmosphere. The story is hyperbolic. Events are wildly implausible. In short, this is magic on steroids.Children aged 10-12 years will enjoy the book. Older children and adults may prefer to give it a pass.
