London's 100 Most Extraordinary Buildings

Great book.
Great book about London's oddities. Worth using as a guide to find these often obscure sites which are all too easy to pass by unnoticed.

Fascinating - more than a coffee-table book
I was introduced to this book when staying in a hotel recently - it was lying on the coffee-table and looked interesting so I picked it up and started reading. Three hours later I finally put it down, have been taken on a trip through London that was both fascinating and informative. I now want to look out for these buildings on my next trip to the capital, having used the book to remind myself of their history first.

Spectacular Vernacular
Just when you think that you have read everything you need to know about our capital city, along comes a book like Spectacular Vernacular. Splendid, informative read on London's 100 most extraordinary buildings, and a must for anyone who revels in this kind of book.

Very much a book for people already aware of London's history in detail
This book is filled with detail about who built London's best buildings... Unfortunately it becomes a list of who's who, without much interest to the layman.

Thumping good read
I am writing this review on behalf of my husband who is currently reading the above book and is raving about it. He awarded it five stars and said more if he could!

Proceed with caution
I have made hundreds of purchase from Amazon and this is my first review motivated by wasting my money. After seeing the 5 Star reviews and receiving the book I was sorely dissapointed. Firstly, the print quality of the photo's which are no better than those of a newspaper, but it gets worse in as much the composition / cropping is amateur at best - maybe the photographer could have stepped back a few paces or used a wider lens. The text is mildly interesting and some of the subjects chosen are perhaps of only interest to those with the most esoteric of minds.I really cannot believe how this got so many 5 Star reviews, it is not a 5 Star book - I would suggest that those who gave it so were trying to self-validate their own purchase or were the author and his family...On the positive, the cover is nice.
