I took this meter out of the box and was surprised to find a 9 volt battery included. I had a D7100 with me at the office, so I turned on the meter and took a photo of it using the on-board flash in manual mode at 1/4 power. After getting the reading I adjusted the camera as per that reading and fired again. Exposure was perfect. It isn't TTL. It won't tell you how to adjust to properly expose a background that isn't being lit by flash, but that part is up to you or the camera.This is not a "Light Meter". It is not for ambient readings, so be sure you understand what it is before you buy. It is a "Flash Meter", nothing more. But it is a good one at a great price.

Wein WP-500B Flashmeter
As a professional photograper and photography instructor I've used a number of flash meter costing many times that of the Wein meter. I purchased the Wein meter based on my experience with the one I purchased in 1973 and unfortunately was pilifered at a recent wedding. However, as with my first meter, my neew one performed perfectly right out of the box. I highly recommend this tool for anyone who wants accurate flash exposures.
