The Royal Road to Card Magic

The content is excellent. Anyone who can master the key techniques introduced here is well on the way to becoming an accomplished performer. The book is detailed and thorough. It seems to me to be all the more a pity that the explanations are not clearer and more simply expressed. The author’s dexterity with cards does not extend to words, alas. The drawings are largely redundant, certainly not clarifying the words. Readers also need to be aware that all here depends on sleight of hand, when there are of course some marvellous tricks that involve deception of quite different kinds. For anyone who has the persistence and determination to penetrate to Hugard’s and Braue’s meaning and to put in the many hours of practice required to master the skills, they will acquire impressive expertise, but a beginner is likely to become quickly discouraged. For those well on the road to proficiency this book has much to offer and probably repays the struggle with less than transparent elucidation of principles.

But i leave it only 2 stars as this version appears to be a photo-copy of the original book, which is very old indeed.Yes, it was an official book (not a counterfeit) and contained the same as the original but the copying re-print process leaves grainy looking text and pictures. Am i too picky? The content is there. Plus its bigger than the earlier additions.summary-If you still want a copy of this book better to have it in this condition than not at all.

I was given a copy of this book in 1985 by a magician called Graham Reed who was a family friend. I had been performing magic at that point for 6 years. The book is an encyclopedia of basic and advanced card magic. Each chapter introduces a new sleight and then it gives you a number of card magic effects to use what you have just learned. The language used is quite complex and old, but if you can understand what they are talking about, there is no better book to introduce card magic to the beginner.

Very thorough and easy to pick up. This is THE card magic tutor YOU NEED! I'm a complete beginner and within a month I can already do a man shuffle control, false shuffles, etc.Most magicians will tell you, this is the card magicians BIBLE.Buy it, study well and become a student of the art of magic. This is about as good a book as you could hope for on card magic. It's written by somebody who not only explains the tricks, but how to "perform" them. Lots of tips about how to keep your patter amusing, and keeping the audience entertained.My major problem with the book though is that slight of hand is very hard to explain in text. You really need to see it in action in order to be able to emulate it. I'm sorry, but the diagrams (for me) are quite hard to fathom.But this is definitely worth a read. It's got some cracking card tricks in here, and I definitely intend to try a few out on my mates.

My copy was exceptionally badly printed, apparently a shoddy copy and paste job. The illustrations are much smaller than I have seen before, smudgy, pixellated and hard to understand. With the illustrations of little value, I could not refresh my - admittedly very poor - magic skills.

I bought this for my husband as he wanted a new hobby, it's opened his eyes to a whole new world of things to do with cards and everyone he speaks to regarding magic (inc our local magic shop owners) say it's a good book to be learning from. He's now surprising me often with new tricks that I cannot figure out and his collection of cards has grown exponentially. I would recommend this book and a pack of cards to anyone who wants to learn.

Hallo ich habe mir dieses buch gekauft da ich von den ganzen youtube tuorials weg wollte und auch mal was anderes wollte und muss sagen das buch ist der Hammer. Ideal für anfänger da alle Moves die man braucht gut erklärt werden und auch sehr gute übungen erklärt werden und wie man sich verbessert. Wenn man mit dem buch fertig ist kann man schon sehr viel und ist um einiges besser als die ganzen youtube tutorials. Für Fortgeschrittene super um jede technik zu verbessern, obwohl die meisten das buch wahrscheindlich schon haben.Also klare Kaufempfehlung. Noch ein tipp lasst euch nicht vom buch abschrecken wenn ihr am anfang nicht das findet was ihr wollt mit der zeit findet man es. Man muss sich einfach mal reinlesen. Ich hoffe ich konnte euch weiterhelfen. Wenn ihr ne frage habt versuche ich schnell darauf einzugehen und schaue immerwieder hier vorbei

Wer englisch lesen und verstehen kann bekommt in diesem Buch die Grundtechnicken für das richtige Halten und geben vermittelt.Es ist für Anfänger gedacht und die Illustrationen sind recht Aussagekräftig, doch es beschreibt eher das einzelne Manöver für einzelne Tricks und wer später eine Performance vor Freunden und Verwandten machen möchte, sucht in diesem Buch vergeblich. Es ist voller Anregungen und richtet sich an Menschen, die bestimmte Fähigkeiten erlernen möchten, um ihre eigenen Ideen von Tricks in Kombination umzusetzen. Natürlich funktionieren alle Tricks auch im Einzelnen schon sehr gut, doch den richtigen Erfolg hat man erst nach langer Zeit des Übens und Kombinierens.Ich bin jedenfalls glücklich dieses Buch nun auch noch einmal in gedruckter Form zu haben.

Das Buch ist echt genial. Ich habe gerade frisch mit Kartenmagie angefangen und mit diesem Buch lernt man alles was man braucht. Man fängt leicht an und die Techniken und Tricks sind aufbauend, was meiner Meinung nach positiv ist. Es ist das optimale Buch für Anfänger und Fortgeschrittene. Es ist sehr detailreich. Ein gutes Englisch muss man mitnehmen. Geht aber auch mit Google-Übersetzer. Der Grund warum es nicht 5 Sterne sind ist, da das Buch nicht 100% heil angekommen ist. Es war nicht eingerissen oder komplett demoliert, aber es war schon ein bisschen abgerieben. Kann aber sein, dass das nur ein Einzelfall war.

Es handelt sich eindeutig um einen Klassiker im alten US paper back Drucksatz, der ein bisschen gewöhnungsbedürftig ist, wenn man den modernen (und etwas höherwertigen?) europäischen Drucksatz gewohnt ist. Das macht aber den Charm des Buches mit aus. Ich habe sehr viel Freude mit diesem Buch! Mir gefällt insbesondere der durchdachte und grundlegende Aufbau. Die Beschreibungen fangen (mit dem overhand shuffel) sehr einfach bis einfach an und entwickeln sich. Jede Technik ist begleitet von mehreren sorgfältig ausgewählten Beispielzaubereien, die ich alle mit Freude durchspiele und auslote. Perfekt geeignet, um nach einem langen Tag abends noch eine neue Technik zu lernen und zwei-drei Zauber auszuprobieren. Man findet gerade als Anfänger gut in die Techniken rein und kann sie schnell in ein paar Zaubereien anwenden, um Familie, Freunde und Kollegen zu verblüffen. Von da ab arbeitet man sich als unbedarfter Zauberer hoch. Je nach Geschwindugkeit ist man in ein paar Wochen (spätestens ab Seite ~100) schon garnicht so schlecht dabei. Kartenzauerei ist ein großartiger und so charmanter Zeitvertreib und das Buch führt gekonnt in die Künste ein. Das Englisch ist zuweilen blumig formuliert. Ich schreibe und spreche auf der Arbeit täglich englisch, muss das Buch aber trotzdem konzentriert lesen und musste zu Beginn das ein oder andere Wort nachschlagen, um zu verstehen, was gemeint ist. Die Beschreibungen der Handbewegungen sind eben doch nicht für jeden so alltäglich.

Uno dei primi che ho letto, in parallelo con Scarne on card Tricks, e personalmente lo reputo il migliore libro per avvicinarsi (e non solo) alla magia con le carte da gioco.È un libro scritto da Frederick Braue californiano e Jean Hugard australiano che viveva a New York nel 1940, i due autori hanno scritto questo libro collaborando via posta, cosa incredibile se si pensa alla velocità delle informazioni di adesso.Braue era un giornalista e prestigiatore semi professionista, appassionato di Cartomagia, a lui si devono delle utility move molto importanti ed usate, come le Braue Reversal e Braue Addition.Jean Hugard era un prestigiatore professionista che dall’Australia si era spostato negli Stati Uniti. Ha scritto più di 30 libri di magia, alcuni a nome suo, alcuni come ghost writer (Mental Magic by Al Baker, Effective Card Magic by Bill Simon, The Fine Art of Magic by George Kaplan), e libri a suo nome: Mental Magic with Cards, Encyclopedia of Card Tricks, Expert Card Technique con Braue ed appunto Royal Road to Card Magic.Il titolo Royal Road to Card Magic tradotto letteralmente dall’inglese vorrebbe dire “La Via Maestra per la Cartomagia” e ben spiega il senso e lo scopo di questo libro, avvicinare il lettore alla Cartomagia non per scorciatoie o vie esoteriche e poco battute, ma di farlo entrare dalla porta principale in un mondo affascinante e ricco di sorprese, un vero testo di studio, strutturato come un corso con lezioni di difficoltà crescente, da cui ha tratto ispirazione Roberto Giobbi per la serie Card College.Non voglio entrare nel dettaglio dei contenuti, ma si trova davvero di tutto: overhand shuffle, miscuglio nel cavo della mano, miscuglio riffle all’americana, glimpse, carta chiave, impalmaggio, falsi tagli, falsi miscugli, etc…Se volete vedere l’indice completo del libro lo trovate qui Jean Hugard & Frederick Braue – The Royal Road to Card Magic TOC ContentsPer ogni lezione/tecnica c’è prima la spiegazione teorica della tecnica ed alla fine del capitolo si trovano uno o più effetti che utilizzano la tecnica appena studiata.Una parte molto interessante è la routine per impratichirsi con l’overhand shuffle, una serie di controlli da eseguire in sequenza: carta portata in fondo e poi in cima, poi seconda dal fondo e poi in cima, etc.… come un kata nelle arti marziali. Ve lo do come consiglio, prendete 3 o 4 sleight o destrezze e mettetele in forma di routine di allenamento, proprio come un kata.Alcune tecniche sono un po’ datate, ma conoscerle permette di capire l’evoluzione della magia con le carte, tenete sempre a mente che è un libro del 1948, e nel giro di 70 anni i gusti del pubblico e la sua percezione della Magia sono cambiati moltissimo.Stesso discorso per gli effetti descritti, molti classici, sono comunque da adattare ad una presentazione più attuale, anche se funzionano benissimo se eseguiti alla lettera.Un elenco dei miei giochi preferiti:A Poker Player’s Picnic, il modo più semplice per produrre gli assi, Matthew Dowden lo fa con 3 spettatori ed è molto forte.Mirror of the Mind, la versione di Giobbi nel Card College ne amplifica l’effettoDesign for Laughter e Circus Card Trick, i due sucker trick più belli.Gray’s Spelling Trick la madre di tutti gli effetti di compitazione.Do as I Do, qualcosa da aggiungere? provate a farlo con due mazzi sigillati!The Three Piles, dove viene spiegato il concetto di remote key cardCard in the Pocket e Ambitious Card, chi non li ha in repertorio?Pulse Trick, variazione mentale di un ritrovamento con carta chiave.Insidious Dr. Fu Liu Tu, il mio preferito, lo faccio con un Joker Guarantee.Questo libro, ha anche una versione in italiano “La Strada Maestra alla Cartomagia” edito da Mondo Troll, per quello che ho letto la traduzione non è chiarissima ed in ogni caso consiglio sempre la versione inglese, che piaccia o meno l’inglese è molto importante nello studio della Magia.Sul mercato di trovano anche due DVD interessanti che seguono passo passo il libro, entrambi dal titolo The Royal Road to Card Magic, uno fatto da Paul Wilson (pubblicato dalla L&L), molto tecnico ma poco coinvolgente, l’altro, di Rudy Hunter (della Magic Makers), invece meno tecnico ma più divertente da seguire. Molto consigliato è lo studio del libro accompagnato da uno di questi due video, per aiutarsi con le immagini dove il testo in inglese sia troppo complesso da seguire.È un libro che non può e non deve mancare nelle librerie di chi studia Magia ed in particolar modo Cartomagia.

Da qualche anno seguo la magia come hobby e avevo bisogno di un testo significativo e completo che riassumesse tutto quello che avevo imparato dai vari tutorial e spiegazioni elettroniche. La scelta è caduta ovviamente sulla bibbia della cartomagia: The Royal Road to Card Magic.Essendo per me un passatempo, volevo spendere il minimo e penso di averlo fatto.Il libro è un edizione economicissima, la copertina di cartoncino ha come grafica una foto evidentemente allargata e sgranata. Il titolo sovrimpresso di colore rosso e molto spartano. All'interno i bordi ampli limitano la parte scritta a un rettangolo molto più piccolo delle dimensioni del libro.MA mai giudicare il libro dalla copertina! (è banale come frase, ma è la verità). E' fantastico, racchiude tutte le principali tecniche di manipolazione delle carte e numerose illusioni da poter presentare a amici e spettatori. Il tutto spiegato in maniera semplice e pratica.Non per niente è considerato la bibbia della cartomagia.Quindi se conoscete l'inglese, in questo scrigno di carta troverete tutto quello che cercate per iniziare a capire le meccaniche che stanno dietro la manipolazione delle carte. Magari non sarà un libro da esporre fieramente nella vostra libreria magica, ma un compagno da portarsi ovunque per studiare o fare un rapido ripasso prima dell'esibizione.

Der Klassiker und wer dem Buch Kapitel für Kapitel folgt und an jedem Kapitel ein paar Stunden übt, der kann anschließen sagen, dass er Kartenzaubern kann.Es fehlt dem Buch an nichts und es führt einen von einem Thema ins andere und baut aufeinander auf.Ich empfehle zusätzlich die DVD oder Download von R. Paul Wilson. Da kann man einfacher sehen, was an einigen Stellen gemeint ist und wie die Bewegungen gehen.

C'est le premier livre que j'ai acheté en magie (avant de dépenser des milliers d'euros sur d'autres tours...). Ce livre est très pratique car il commence vraiment de zéro et vous apprend les techniques de bases avec quelques applications.La description des mouvements est correcte. J'ai néanmoins (mais peu importe l'ouvrage) toujours un peu de mal à suivre des instructions. J'ai maintenant tendance à privilégier les vidéos, mais, ceux-ci sont bien plus cher (compter parfois 30€ pour un tour de magie sur les cartes... voir plus de 100€ si il y a du matériel spécifique, "gimmicks"...).C'est donc un bon investissement pour voir si on est intéressé en magie. De plus, lire en anglais est un avantage car l'essentiel des ressources en magie sont en anglais. Utiliser les termes basics (overhand shuffle, riffle shuffle, double-lift, crimp, breather, gimmicks, false count, false cut) est donc une nécessité. Si l'on veut des techniques de bases plus poussé et que le format livre, vous convient et que la langue anglaise ne vous rebute pas, la série "card college" de Roberto Giobbi est la prochaine étape (beaucoup plus poussé et plus cher aussi !).En français, vous pourrez trouver, en format vidéo, l'encyclopédie des tours de cartes de Jean Pierre Vallarino.Pour finir, mon petit conseil : Oui, il y a des ressources gratuites sur youtube, mais, ce sont souvent des gens qui ne maîtrisent pas vraiment la magie en général. Il faut mieux investir un peu en payant de VRAI ressources fait par des professionnels plutôt que de perdre du temps avec des ressources, certes, gratuites, mais inefficace.Et, à ce prix, 7€, c'est vraiment une bonne affaire :)

Was soll ich sagen das Buch ist wie die Bibel oder der Duden für Kartentricks. Dafür würde es eigentlich 5 Sterne geben weil es genau das ist was ich haben wollte.Allerdings waren einige Kratzer und Druckstellen auf dem Buch. So stelle ich mir das Buch niemals ins Regal. Ich denke die Schäden kommen vor allem von der schlechten Versandtasche in welcher das Buch versendet wurde.

Tricks sind von einfach zu anspruchsvoll enthalten. Ich habe die Lektüre genossen, weil das Englisch und etliche Publikumstipps etwas antiquiert sind und von daher eine kleine Zeitreise darstellen. Dies beeinflußt aber nicht die Karten tricks an sich. Man lernt die Grundtechniken, aber eben auch durchaus komplexere Dinge.

Perfekt für jeden der die Basics von Kartentricks lernen möchte. An manchen Stellen aber leider sehr umständlich geschrieben.

Perfektes Handbuch zum Lernen und Verstehen von zaubertricks. Unverzichtbare Ausrüstung für alle interessierten Anfänger und fortgeschrittene die sich mit der Materie beschäftigen wollen.

Dieses Buch enthält so viele wichtige Infos, es ist goldwert. Keine Pflichtlektüre aber dennoch immer gut um mal etwa snachzuschlagen oder für unterwegs um sich etwas weiterzubilden.

You buy this book if you want to understand how to make magic great. Most of the thing in the book isn't sleight intensive either.
