Q: Does frother attachment go on the bottom?

There are two types of attachments. One with wire if you want mostly froth and another solid black if you want mostly warmed milk and a little froth. Design wise it would be great if you could attach somewhere the one you aren't using but there isn't so I put mine into a very small plastic zip lock bag and taped it to the cord. Otherwise I knew I would lose it. Hope this helps!

Q: Can you just use it to froth cold milk electrically without heating the milk ?

Yes. Just use the frothing coil on the inside and press the bottom button to turn it on. The bottom button is for cold the top button is for hot. Very simple. Works great!

Q: can this be used to simply heat milk without extra frothing?

Although I have not tried it, I'm sure you can just heat the milk and not froth by simply removing the whisk in the bottom of the cup. Also when you froth, only the top is froth and the bottom heated milk. You choose if you want the milk heated or cold by pressing either the red lighted part of the button for heated milk or the blue lighted part of the button for cold. This is a large container so you can process enough milk froth for two cups depending on how much milk you use in your coffee or tea. Hope this helps!
