Life in the Roman World of Nero and St. Paul

Whether you're a history buff or a student of the Bible, this is an excellent look at the day-to-day life of the people of Rome during the time when Nero ruled the Empire.Many times we let sketchy information and our imaginations fill in the considerable gaps about how people lived during this time. We see the ruins of the Forum between the Palatine and Capitoline Hills and assume that's what Peter and Paul might have seen. I really enjoyed the chapter where the author took us on a walk through the Forum of that time pointing out what was there and what wasn't.I am both a history buff and a student of the Bible, so I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I can't imagine anyone with even a slight interest in Ancient Rome being disappointed.

Text was very helpful. Obviously this was a compilation of lecture notes as the notes referred to images but there were no images in the book. Often I would do internet searches of the titles of the images to get an idea of what the author was referring to in his notes. My only suggestion would be to either include the images or exclude that part from the text.

the book failed to hold my attention due to writing style. author left many important event out or gave them cursory comment. Good for new reader of the historical time period but not for knowledgable reader.

OK - so the material is a little dated. Regardless, if you want to sneak-a-peek at life in the 1st century Roman empire this is a great resource. As a pastor I found the insights and material very very helpful in painting a contextual picture for teaching the scriptures.The price is right.The material good.

The book has some good information but written in a confusing way that is hard to follow who the subject is at the time.

This was an awesome read - if you want to know about life during roman times this is for you. it was fascinating and interesting. the author makes that world come to life for you

Very skilfully written and provides a lot of useful information. The authors assume little or no relevant knowledge - useful to someone like me!This publication is an authority on the suject; its makes your brain come alive when reading! I do honestly unreservedly recommend this book.
