Review Mariani's Virtual Gourmet Newsletter, Vol IX "Award-winning chefs Gaier and Frasier, of Arrows Restaurant in Ogunquit, Maine, were among the first restaurateurs to showcase the true bounty of the New England cornucopia, and this highly instructive book shows why the food of that region is so extraordinarily rich and by necessity tied so intimately to the seasons.  There is good info on foraging, on "How to Eat a Lobster," and the essential herbs  to plant for a garden.  Then come irresistible recipes--johnnycakes with peekytoe crab, classic lobster rolls, cod cakes with tartar sauce, Yankee pot roast, and Whoopie pies, all old fashioned dishes made with a professional's eye towards finesse but without over-refinement." Providence Journal“I can’t think of any other book I’d pick up on the search for wonderful, seasonal recipes before reaching for Maine Classics. … amazing photos… a good read as well as guide to cooking a wonderful seasonal meal, whatever the season.” Herald News, 7/20/11 "…a fascinating read about the Maine way of life as much as a collection of distinctive recipes."  Read more About the Author Mark Gaier and Clark Frasier opened Arrows Restaurant in Ogunquit, Maine, in 1988 after careers in fine restaurants from San Francisco to Boston. Nice Reference Type of Cook Book
The recipes are nice and some of the narrative is good - I would have preferred less narrative and more recipes.

Maine's best food
I have read the entire book and enjoyed every page. I can't wait to go back to Ogunquit and beautiful Perkins Cove and dive into the bounties of Maine. The photos just add more beauty to the book.

Unacceptable number of errors in this cookbook
The pictures are gorgeous and the couple of recipes I've tried have been successful, but I'm having a difficult time getting past the basic copy editing errors in the book. Page number references are missing or incorrect, ingredients are missing from ingredient lists, but called for in the recipe itself. I just find this kind of hasty editing and production annoying, especially on such an otherwise lovely book.

A Cookbook to inspire your Tastebuds
I first visited Arrows Restaurant, near Ogunquit, Maine, many years ago, and was always intrigued by their beautiful vegetable and herb gardens, besides flower gardens. I have been back numerous times thru the years, and always love the experience of the freshest foods and wonderful recipes they produce. It was such an experience, as I had never been anywhere before, where the chefs made such tasteful, delicious delights, and you would see them go out and pick the fresh vegetables and herbs for your dinner. Their cookbooks are a "must" for me, as their food is fabulous, and to have these recipes is pure joy!! These chefs are truly remarkable.

Maine Classics
Another wonderful book from the team at Arrows. Each recipe is easy to follow and easy to replicate, but more important is divine to taste. Looking forward to trying more

If you like a cookbook with tons of pics of the recipes showcased, forget about this one. It's chock full of these two guys -- Mark and Clark -- posing for the camera.Out of the 150+ recipes, 22 are portrayed. Sheesh.

Always the best!
Mark and Clark's new book "Maine Classics" is like a dinner at Arrows or MC Perkins Cove... simply the best! My husband, Tim, and I visit Ogunquit enough to recognize what a gift it is to have great chefs and great restaurants in the area. Since Arrows opened in 1988, we have had at least one or more dinners there every year. When we bring friends from Ohio to Maine, a stop at Arrows is a must.
