I thought teh motion sensor was a dumb gimmic and I was very wrong.
I have a lot of flashlights -- some with magnets, some with stands, some with hooks -- and I can never get any of them to stay pointed where I need them while keeping both hands free. This headlamp solves that problem perfectly. The light is a good brightness for close work, the head strap is comfortable (at least for the short periods I've worn it), you can adjust the angle, and the built-in rechargeable battery lasts for as long as I've needed it (a few hours at least). Now, the motion sensor: I was worried that it would turn on and off any time I moved when my head was stuck inside a computer case or I got too close to branches doing late-night emergency gardening -- nope. They've managed to fine tune the sensor so (with rare exceptions) it only recognizes the wave of your hand. The only time I was able to accidentally "trick" the sensor was with my face close to a doorway when shuffling sideways. Still, I thought I'd have no use for it ...until I had something in both hands and wanted to turn it on, and another time when my hands were covered in mud and I wanted to turn it off when I came inside. Now I think it's a fantastic feature.Less fantastic are all the other lighting modes which you have to cycle through to turn the light "really" off. I can see how these modes could appeal to walkers, joggers, cyclists, etc. but you have to hit either the "on" or motion sensor buttons six times to get back to off. It would have been better if they used one of the two buttons for on/motion sensor/off and the other button to cycle through bright/dim/strobe/red/red strobe.Minor "really off" nuisance aside, this is now my favourite flashlight when I need to get work done.
