Rats got under the hood of my car and made a nest. They also chewed up wiring under the intake manifold of my engine, causing the check engine light to come on, which prevented me from being able to get the car smog tested or registered. They had to tear the top half of my engine apart to fix all the damage, and it cost me THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS!The Victor M144 is simply the best rat trap around, and totally reusable! Beware of imitations that look like Victors, but don't work well. Sometimes you can't get them cocked, and sometimes they won't trip! The Victor M144 is easy to set every time, and VERY effective. They come with two holes, so be sure to anchor them down to something so some larger critter doesn't run off with a fresh meal, taking your trap with him!

I have an ongoing issue with rats around utility building on the back corner of my property because my neighbor lady feeds them. She doesn't feed them specifically, but she dumps piles of bird feed on a 3x3 piece of plywood nailed to the top of 4x4 post. They are very powerful and produce clean kills on adult rats. However, have had a fair number of mice size, or a bit bigger young ones lately and these traps have not produced the clean kill success I have enjoyed with the larger ones. I have taken them up and am using smaller traps for a while. One size does not fit all when it comes to snap traps.They can also be a little finicky to set sometimes, but if you fiddle with the little trip latch that holds the bar when your setting it will work.I took one star off because of the finicky latch, but these are very powerful traps for large rats. I would buy again these traps again.

Summary Bought two traps back in December 2023, the M144 Power-Kill Easy Set, and the M147 Safe-Set. The Safe Set SUCKS, not once was it triggered, and the bait was gone. Had a rat in my garage. Set this trap with a dab of peanut butter placed in the bait cup.Killed it dead overnight.5 DEAD. More rats have found our property: This single trap has killed FIVE rats so far.BEST to set it at night so squirrels or pets won't accidentally find it.EASY to set. Try setting it while in place on the ground. Be careful NOT to accidentally bump it while placing it.EASY to press the Red bar and it opens, disengaging the dead rodent without touching it.EASY to clean: just add a squirt of soap and spray off with hose or sink sprayer.Now, I first put a small piece of plastic food wrap in the bait cup, then add the dab peanut butter or bait.THis way I don't usually have to wash the greasy residue off.

I bought the traps now for the second time. They are very sturdy and have an excellent quality.

Best piece of advice to anyone that's having issues with rodents eating the bait without setting the trap off. I used hot glue to secure the bait and it worked everytime.

We bought one of these to catch a rat we saw scamper across our alfresco one evening. Well it caught that one and another 3 over the next few months. It’s very well designed, easy to set and it clearly works. Best rat trap ever. Just make sure you set it in an inaccessible space away your pets and kids fingers.
