Many 11 plus questions concerning animals and their habitats have appeared in examination papers over the years. In order to answer these it is essential that a child cannot only distinguish between the male, female and young of each animal type but is able to name the appropriate habitat. We have devised this set of cards to assist in learning such information. Our research found that many children preparing for the 11 plus had little or no knowledge of the names specific to each animal, however, those that played these cards could recall most of them with ease. The cards are colour coded to assist the child with familiarity of the correct classification, as follows; Blue - Father Pink - Mother Yellow - Young Green - Habitat The animal is written in bold letters on the front of the card and the description of the animal is on the reverse. The name of the habitat is again written on the front of the card in bold letters and the animal that can be found there is on the reverse. The cards are numbered 1-3 in the top right hand corner to show the level of difficulty of the card, 3 being the most difficult. The numbering system can be used for point scoring purposes when playing a game as an individual, or during a competitive game with 2 or more players.
