the wonderful music of R. B. Greaves -- THANK YOU AND R.I.P., R.B. GREAVES !!!
R.B. Greaves (Ronald Bertram Aloysius "R. B." Greaves III, November 28, 1943 - September 27, 2012), "was a singer who had a big chart success in 1969 with the pop single `Take a Letter Maria;'...this single sold one million copies and earned a gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. Greaves also had a Top 40 pop hit a year later with `Always Something There to Remind Me.'"All of these songs are really good. "Always Something There to Remind Me" has a great sound to it; the musical arrangement fits in perfectly with R.B.'s vocals and there's no wonder this was a hit for him! "Don't Play That Song" again displays R.B.'s incredible ability to deliver a poignant ballad with panache; and "Take a Letter, Maria" is something I could never tire of hearing when R.B. Greaves sings it! "Cupid" shows how well R.B. Greaves could cover a tune and by playing a little bit with tempo and key changes put his own stamp on it and make it his own. It's impressive."This Is Soul" and "Ballad of Leroy" are very well done; "Ain't That Good News" again has R.B. Greaves squarely in the spotlight which is right where he will always belong! "Birmingham, Alabama" is another song that moves me with a story that is really not that happy and the CD ends with two excellent numbers, "Home to Stay" and "Oh When I Was a Boy."Although R.B. Greaves left us all too soon, he lives on through his music. These songs for download highlight his talent as a gifted man who sang beautifully and with true passion. I highly recommend the timeless music of R.B. Greaves.

At Long Last!!
Finally! I've been waiting for this one for years!! I have it on vinyl, and though the record is in great shape, I have wanted a digital version to enjoy. As far as I know, this is the only recording by R.B. Greaves, and that is a shame. This outing has great material, including the smash hit "Take a Letter, Maria." His cover of "Always Something There to Remind Me" is my favorite version of the song. "Home to Stay" is a gripping tale of a soldier's final homecoming. There is great urban commentary in "The Ballad of Leroy" and "Birmingham, Alabama." So much else could be said about this great album, but suffice it to say that the material is strong, the production superb, and the performance leaves you wanting more. Many thanks to those responsible for its release on CD!

Another album by R. B. Greaves.
I agree with reveiwer Mr. Billings on this album. However, for his information and others who may not know, there is at least one other LP as follows: "R. B. Greaves," Bareback Records, Inc., New York, N.Y., 1977, #-BB3333, Produced by Stephen Metz and Helen Miller, all songs written by Mr. Greaves. This LP has ten tracks - all different from the listed 1969 LP.
