"War Is Making US Poor"
John Rachal is a tireless anti-war voice and advocate for peace and prosperity. In this his latest book he asks timely, and sadly it seems eternal, questions about why the U.S. is constantly at war.No sooner does the U.S. end one “war of choice” than it gets into another one. Each time the American people are told that they are faced with an existential threat, which must be fought with a bloody war “for as long as it takes”. Then the U.S. walks away from that war and it is forgotten. Before long a new war is launched against an endless list of enemies. The public has a short memory. Does anybody remember why the U.S. was in Afghanistan for 20 years? Iraq? Libya? Syria? Somalia? Yugoslavia? Panama? Grenada? Et cetera?John has turned to some of the leading dissidents of U.S. foreign and domestic policies for insights into the policies which lead inevitably to perpetual war. These are questions that all Americans should be asking and demanding that our leaders answer them too. Politicians should be held accountable for leading the U.S. into one disastrous war after another. It is why the American people can’t have nice things, such as universal healthcare, modern mass transportation, quality education, and economic security for all.John has proposed a novel, yet practical, way to clean house of corrupt warmongering leaders and replace them with leaders who promise to end the cost, waste, destruction, chaos, and deaths of endless U.S. wars. His plan is called the Peace Dividend, and it not only requires politicians to make promises, but it also forces them to keep them.Politicians keeping promises? That is a novel idea, but it is doable if we implement the Peace Dividend strategy.

The Peace Movement is marginalized but still has voices of reason
This is an important book, a compendium of some of the most perceptive observers of US foreign policy, from across the political spectrum. What has largely been brushed aside by most 'reputable' sources of information, is the issue of militarism as a key component of US policy. So here in a series of interviews from both the traditional Left, such as Noam Chomsky, Lee Camp and Cynthis McKinney, to the conservative Right, such as Paul Craig Roberts and former Colon Powell advisor, Larry Wilkerson.Former military people who participated in past wars, have apparently agreed with the traditional Left, that this is a problem. So what makes this book useful, is that it appeals to a wide spectrum of political thought in the US, from both main parties, Republican and Democrat, as well as those, like McKinney, who left the Democrats.Public awareness is well served by this group of thoughtful people, who may not agree on other issues, such as whether or not Capitalism as a system is at the root of the problem, but at least they agree that war is not the answer. Several cited Martin Luther King's quote about the US being the greatest purveyor of violence. So this book, which took considerable effort and dedication by John Rachel, is both edifying and important. Well worth the read. I see this book as a great public service, and deserves your support.
