From his earliest recordings with Roxy Music at the beginning of the 1970s, Bryan Ferry has taken his place as one of the most iconic and innovative musicians and songwriters to emerge in popular music. Ferry's Olympia tour travelled the world in 2011, including this spectacular performance filmed on July 25 at the ancient Roman amphitheater in Lyon, France as part of the Nuits de Fourviere Festival. The show features tracks from across Ferry's 40 year career including classic Roxy Music songs, solo hits and his renowned interpretations of other writer's material all delivered with the style and panache that is uniquely Bryan Ferry. The Live in Lyon Blu-Ray is accompanied by a superb 40 page booklet as well.Bonus Features:The Making Of Olympia documentary covering the recording of the Olympia album with previously unseen interviews and performances with guest artists including Nile Rodgers, Dave Stewart, Marcus Miller, David Gilmour, Flea and The Scissor SistersTrack Listing:1) I Put A Spell On You 2) Slave To Love 3) Don't Stop The Dance 4) Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues 5) If There Is Something 6) Make You Feel My Love 7) You Can Dance 8) Alphaville 9) Reason Or Rhyme 10) Oh Yeah! 11) Like A Hurricane 12) Tara 13) Bitter-Sweet 14) Avalon 15) My Only Love 16) What Goes On 17) Sign Of The Times 18) Love Is The Drug 19) All Along The Watchtower 20) Let's Stick Together 21) Hold On I'm Coming 22) Jealous Guy

A must for any music fan, any age
I agree with all the positive reviews; the disagreeable one or two are your bargain basement snark. Don't bother. What interests me in this selection of songs is the breadth: iI goes back to the first Roxy and includes the latest, Olympia. This is a masterful song selection, including covers of Dylan (obviously) but also Neil Young and John Lennon and Sam and Dave. You get a total sense of the man as an artist who has surveyed decades of music, integrated all them within his repertoire of resources, and approaches everything with both respect and real enthusiasm. Of the originals, he harkens back to a surprising number from some disputed classic albums, like Bride Stripped Bare and Flesh + Blood. Both were fine records, dismissed because they were departures, and critics don't like departures. Hearing Sign of the Times reminded me of what an incredible pop song it is. My Only Love is so breathtakingly spare and heart wrenching. From Olympia, there are three selections, one dark disco, one darker disco, and one brilliantly subtle ballad. It's a daring mix, and it all works out superbly. The band is far from geezer. (I don't know what the person was thinking when the second drummer, second guitarist, sax/keyboardist are all younger than that reviewer likely is. By the way, calling a woman a "bird" is pretty pathetic, since she's a great musician and it REALLY shows YOUR age, my friend. Maybe not chronologically, but for sure in karma years.) Ferry's voice never sounded better live, because here he dispenses with his dance steps and focuses on the notes, and if you watch, he's actually singing them. Unlike all the newer synth driven oil-on-velvet bands, who are only looking for five note hooks, with giant manly choirs, that can be adapted to TV commercials.I'm right about this. Listen to KROQ, listen to TV commercials. Same riffs. Real musicians like Ferry are few and far between. I'm a fan, but this DVD...it was a kick way up in my appreciation. I think he's nailed it. Covering his hybrid of Lou's "What Goes On," which incorporates other Lou songs of the period, is over the top. It was years earlier; it rocks with more authority now.Ferry rightly deserves his place as an innovator, superior musician and singer, and a man of uncompromising artistic integrity. This video is both nostalgic and brand new. That's the deal in the end, for a great musical provocateur, and NOT just a good commercial slice of velvet. You can watch this, but listen to it first and foremost. Best Ferry album ever.

WOW!
Let me say I have about 30 Blu-ray concert videos. Where does this stand among those? How bout at the very top. Yes it is that good.Bryan and his band put on a fantastic performance. Between his own hits and some Roxy music songs along with a few old classic covers, everyone of them is performed flawlessly. The band is so tight and talented especially the young kid he has playing lead guitar. The sound is stunning in either 5.1 or stereo. If you get a chance to listen to it on a real good headphone system, you will be blown away! This concert was .played at an outdoor venue in a pouring rain. To show how good it really was, not one person left their seat throughout the whole show. That is saying something folks. Not only would I recommend this to any Roxy/Ferry fan, that of course would be a no brainer., but I would highly recommend it to any great music lover because there is plenty of it on display here. A must have if there ever was one!

Elegant, lush, and beautiful show
I've always loved Roxy Music and this show Bryan Ferry put together is mesmerizing. Guitarists Neil Hubbard and Oliver Thompson were outstanding with some incredible lead solos. Jorja Chalmers on sax and keyboards was stellar. The backdrop videos, the dancers, and the backup singers were terrific. Colin Good's piano was dreamy, bassist Jeremy Meehan was fantastic, and drummers Andy Newmark and Bryan's son Tara Ferry kept everything in perfect time. And Bryan Ferry was just wonderful. He's one of a kind - elegant with that lyrical, hauntingly romantic voice of his. When he sang "Jealous Guy" it made me cry. What a great show! I wish I could have seen it in person, especially in the beautiful ancient Roman amphitheatre in Lyon.

A Roxy Music Fan MUST OWN!!!!!
Since I bought this DVD I have probably watched it a dozen times. And listened to it more times. I don't know whether I will wear out my "Roxy Music Live at the Apollo" or this DVD first.

NOTHING BUT CLASSY COOL!!!!
Great picture, amazing audio! I was lucky enough to see Bryan Ferry on his 'Bête Noir' tour, while that show IMO had a better selection of songs, (basically the entire 'Boys and Girls' and 'Bête Noir' albums with a good dose of Roxy thrown in), this show is no slouch. His shows remind me a lot of a carnival, in that there is always something going on. Different musicians taking solos, dancers, Ferry, himself switching from vocals to piano and other keyboards, and more. Ferry just reeks of 'cool'. The way he dresses and carries himself is nothing but class. Every guy wants to be him, every girl wants him. Yes, this is a very entertaining blu-ray.

I'd give this a 6 stars if I could.
Forget the age thing - that's just a cliche. Ferry's great and so is everyone else on the stage. In fact, buy this Blu-Ray even if you don't like Bryan Ferry. Doesn't matter. Whomever recorded and mastered this thing knew what they were doing. In 7.1, the rear channels clearly represent the mikes at the back of the hall and reproduce a spatial environment I've heard on very few other Blue-Ray concert discs. It's recorded well, it's shot well, it's produced well. You won't be disappointed... that is until it ends.I'd give this 6 stars if I could, It's porn for the ears.

No one but Bryan Ferry .... Very enjoyable and well done!!!!
I love this. I've watched it about six times in three days - a real keeper. Classic Bryan Ferry with his interesting king of the lounge lizzards twist. This has excellent shelf value for a collection to be viewed again and again. It was interesting to me how it built. By the end, I have to admit I was surprised how well he could still rock it at 60+ - still with that same sultry voice and charisma. Really, really excellent item for any Bryan Ferry or Roxy Music fan's collection. This was the best I've purchasaed in a long time. Really enjoyed it.

Simply the best Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music concert ever recorded - FLAWLESS!
If you are a Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music fan this has got to be in your collection.Audio/video are both top quality - recorded in true 1080p high definition and the sound is amazing both in PCM stereo or 5.1 Dolby Surround. The entire crew in this concert deserve mention:The legendary Bryan Ferry, of course, simply needs no words - he is at his absolute best here (in my opinion anyway). The familiar faces of Andy Newmark (drums) and Neil Hubbard (guitar) are here - the musical experience of these guys is a pure pleasure to watch - and hear. Their performances look so effortless - skills that can only come with time. Two other seasoned and familiar performers are Jeremy Meehan on bass guitar and Colin Good on piano - again effortless skill. The brilliant Jorja Chalmers adds so much to this particular concert on sax and keyboards - the first time I have seen her perform - an amazing talent. The backing singers add a whole dimension to the audio of this concert - Aleysha Gordon, Bridgette Amofah and Shar White. I have to make a special mention of the stunning Sewuese Abwa whose vocal in Avalon has to be heard to be believed - the best rendition of this track I have ever heard (that statement applies to many of the tracks in this concert). The two luckiest guys here must be Tara Ferry (drums) and Oliver Thompson (guitar) - two relative youngsters lucky enough to be surrounded by such talent (they were pretty good too I have to say).Jade Sullivan and Marie Francis round off the performance with their brilliant dancing.Anyway - as you might have gathered - I liked this bluray a lot...!

Brilliant Package
Can’t recommend this highly enough! Blu-ray is fabulous with excellent quality sound an picture, excellent playing by all of the band plus cd as well.Only quibble is that 2 of the best tracks have been omitted from the cd and one awful track “Bitter-Sweet” retained. Could have split into 2 cds for the whole concert. The A5 book is fantastic as well with a narrative of each of the band members and each of Ferry’s solo releases. Now this is the way to present a live recoding - give the consumers options and let them decide. Available on cd and dvd but this is by far the best option.Other bands and artists should take note as there are some pretty crappie packages out there with minimal information or forethought.Definitely worth £20 or so if you’re a fan.

Fantastic
Like a lot of people I caught the shortened version of this on Sky Arts. But on blu-ray and with DTS HD Master Audio, this is in another league. The picture and sound quality are really fantastic, particularly the audio. Luckily also there’s little fancy camera work to distract you and the audience noise generally takes a back seat. This is every bit as good as Richard Thompson’s recent blu-ray which I thought would be hard to equal. If I’m not mistaken BF has worked with most of these people before over the years and it shows. So not only excellent audio and video but BF and the band are very together and some of the versions on here of stuff we know and love are excellent versions. For example I’ve never particularly liked their take on Like a Hurricane before but this one seems better somehow.Everyone will have their own favourites but for me Don’t Stop the Dance and Alphaville are real highlights. If you like BF and Roxy then this is a must, if you’re not sure then get this anyway.I got the BRD/CD version and even though CD data storage limits how much of the concert you get, it’s still worth having. Again the audio quality is excellent and it’s a great listen. The packaging is pretty glossy and fancy, although slightly awkward , but is miles better than the presentation we’re used to with the Roxy collections.Overall a definite ten out of ten for audio, video and content, a gem. And even better for concentrating on the band, not the audience.

Best 2 hours of entertainment you will have had for ages!
This has just got to me the best concert that Bryan as ever done. Excellent songs, new & old, all played live by real musicians. Love the fact that Bryan lets they all take centre stage at some point to play solo. Two hours of excellent entertainment, very well recommended. My only regret, I did not get to attend the actual concert live in Lyon!
