My 4 year old nephew had so much fun with this kit! He loved digging for the gems and now has a little collection of gemstones. Be prepared for a big mess! The powder from the rocks got all over his clothes and the table, but it cleaned up easily. This might be best to do outside in the yard! This kept him occupied for hours!

This is super detailed and well thought out, and suitable for both retail resale and individual use. The box can be set up as a display, each planet is individually wrapped, 8 excavation tools are supplied, along with the necklace supplies. There is, unfortunately, only one flyer, but that could be copied and included in a packet upon purchase if purchased for resale.The flyer has great detail on the different gem stones that are in the plants and the plaster material is perfect -- not too hard and not too easy to dig through for the gems. (The instructions say you can soak them if you want to make it a little easier, and perhaps even less "dusty" - but we didn't try it). Yes, it can get messy, but that's why the instructions encourage doing the activity on a large sheet of paper, or outside is fine too. My niece and two nephews did it inside, using a large sheet of paper and a damp paper towel to wipe fingers and hands with and it was fine. While the necklaces may not appeal to everyone, they can be made into zipper and ceiling fan pulls and probably other items instead of just necklaces.Fun and creative, this is a very carefully thought out product that I think all ages can enjoy.

Awesome activity for a rock enthused 4-year-old. I let him use one of his small hammers along with the provided chisels to explore these planets and get the gems out. Making some of the stones into necklaces are an extra bonus!

While, this would be a fun gift for any child, I think it would be an especially great gift for a little girl who loves outer space! The premise of the activity is digging through the planets to find gemstones to then make your own necklaces. Such a fun project that actually produces a piece of jewelry rather than just having more rocks sitting around. I can see my boys having fun making necklaces for me and their sister but I don’t know that they would actually wear them themselves. Overall, great set and lots of fun!

I got this one for my son, he just turned 12 and still loves this stuff. I like this kit because it comes with 8 balls to crack open. As with others it’s definitely an outside activity. This kept him busy for an hour or so. He also made a necklace with one of the stones.Tools and stuff to make necklaces were included. I definitely recommend this kit for sure.

I ordered this for my 9 year old who absolutely loves the concept of something being hidden inside an object and you have to work to get it out. He also loves rocks/stones/gems. The nice thing about this product is in addition to planets that have rocks hidden inside, there is information about the planets, along the outside of the box, which he loved reading and learning about. There are also cards about each item that would be found inside. There are enough of the "break open" tools to have one per planet, which is truly more than you need since they are durable, but it is helpful to have a "clean" one to start with for each planet. There are also 8 spiral baubles that can contain a rock (plus a string with fastener) so they can be worn like jewelry. My only complaint is that there were supposed to be 16 rocks, and we only found 15 in the planets. After we couldn't find the second gem in the planet he was working on, we saved all the parts of every planet to see if we just needed to find a third in one planet. After thoroughly breaking everything, we came to the conclusion that our set was just missing one gem.
