I recently acquired the USB Smartfold Type C CAC Reader, hoping to improve my card mobility needs. While this reader has some merits, it must improve in a few critical areas, making it a somewhat mixed purchase.First off, let's talk about the size. The USB Smartfold Type C CAC Reader is notably larger than I expected, especially compared to my previous Identiv reader. Its larger footprint might be a drawback for those looking for a more compact and portable option. I found it less convenient to carry around, especially when traveling light.In terms of durability, the reader seems sturdy enough to withstand daily use. However, a significant drawback I encountered is its challenging opening and closing mechanism. The effort required to open the reader borders is excessive, and it feels like I'm at risk of breaking it each time I use it. This can be frustrating, especially if you need to access your card frequently.Another issue I encountered is with the "wings" of the reader. When opened, they don't securely click shut and feel loose. This lack of a secure locking mechanism is a letdown, as it raises concerns about the longevity and stability of the device over time. It's different from what you'd expect from a product in this category.While the USB Smartfold Type C CAC Reader does its job and is compatible with the necessary devices, it lacks the premium feel and compactness many users seek. Disappointing because it lights up when plugged in but it doesn’t work 😞

The card reader worked for 3 months and started making the connection sounds while plugged in. It also fails to read the card off an on. Contacted customer service and no response. Stay Away !!!!

Windows detects a security issue with driver, and doesn’t work with Idemia. Waste of money

Worked immediately on my MacBook running Ventura

The actual chip reader works well even through an adapter. But the quality of the plastic feels cheep and one of the fold out parts gets stuck on it way out, every single time. I have to put much more force than I would have in order to open it. These two facts combined make me sure that it will inevitably break after a few uses.
