Deborah Mackin's Getting Back - The Complete Video Guide to Reshaping Your Body After Childbirth [VHS]

I love this dvd and believe it really works!
Reading other people's reviews I know what they mean about the music and the 80's style, but my goodness this does what it says on the tin! I've never been terribly fit, I just rate myself as fairly average if perhaps unfit. But I feel that this gives me a good workout, is practical and relatively easy to do. I like the stretches and think that they are easy to follow and work well and if you want to do more for longer, just pause the dvd or video, or do more at the end! After my first child (I now have 3) I paid for a post natal course at my local leisure centre. When I had my second child doing this just wasn't feasable so I bought this video. Some of the exercises and routines were very similar to the course that I had paid for so I was over the moon!I managed to lose my video so I have just purchased this again on DVD from Amazon (now I've had my 3rd child) and am really pleased to have it back again to use.To be fair, I haven't tried any other post natal work out videos but why change what works!I would definitely recommend this!

very useful if you are prepared to put in the effort.
This is a good video and about the only one that I know of that specifically targets women who have recently given birth and all the associated flabby bits! The first section includes light posture, back and pelvic-floor exercises to be started as soon as you are ready after giving birth and a further section (for after the 6-week check) includes short mini-routines that deal with the main problem areas: abdominals, thighs, bum and hips and also warm-up and relaxation exercises. The exercises are finely tuned to the specific body-regions and are of the slow and specific muscle-aching type as opposed to the sweaty and aerobic type.Deborah Mackin is certainly testament to the efficacy of this regime if visual encouragement is needed as her abdominals look almost too good to be true! The video ends with a discussion of healthy eating and losing weight which more-or-less states the obvious. No value added there. This video is worth having but, as with all exercise videos and equipment, only if you actually use it (the more challenging side of the purchase!) I only used mine once or twice, but am confident that my abs would be much flatter now had I persevered!

Good Workout
I used this DVD after giving birth to my two children for the last 3 years. This DVD gives you a good chance to excercise just weeks after the child's birth. It has several mini-workouts so you can choose which one to do wilst your baby is taking a short a nap and if your baby takes about an hour of sleeptime, then you can do them altogether. The only downside is that the music is pathetic and it looks like if it was filmed in the 80's, and that is the only reason I've not given it 5 stars. Go for it if you don't mind the music or the setting.

i have to say this is the best workout i have ever done
i adore this workout, i got the video 15 years ago after having my son, over the years i lost the video, i am now loosing weight again and wanted a dvd that was efficient, i have to say this is the best workout i have ever done, and it is suitsble for anyone not just new mums. well 15 years ago it worked and its working again now, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED , especially for those who hate working out, its different , and you see the results quite quickly.its still as good today as it was years ago, well worth the money

This does actually work
Although an old recording, in my opinion its still the best exercise video on the market. The exercises are easy enough to do, even with chronic back pain conditions. Try it, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

A bit average
This dvd is fine, but really nothing special. The workout is very focused on toning and not on aerobic workouts, so particularly if you are used to exercise, this is not the one for you as it won't feel strenuous enough. Also, there should be a LOT more stretching. What there is is good, but loss of flexibility is a big issue for new mothers, so I really missed a good stretching session. In short, it's absolutely fine, not a waste of money, but not terribly exciting. Buy it if you are really out of shape and want a gentle return to exercise.

Fantastic! Helpful if you had a section, or a normal birth
I gave this a 5 star rating because I have had 5 babies. I have always found it difficult to 'reshape' my body after giving birth, however, after having a ceserean section in the last 7 months, it has been a struggle. This video has been absolutely fantastic, while I was pregnant I put on 11 stone (I was 9 stone before!), using this video, I have recently gotten back to 9 stone, and my abs are now begginning to flatten. The video is divided into sections, to help you plan your routine, and there is nutritiobnal advice too. Also it was wrote 'by a mother for a mother.' I highly recommend it, especially if you have had more than one child.

Get moving
A very enjoyable workout with some practical advice for new mums on getting back in shape and other issues including a 'healthy diet' section at the end. Beware: Mums with no aerobics experience...this will be tough at first, getting coordinated and so on. Also, if you are very overweight, take the hips/thighs part slowly as it can be intense on the knees.Could have done with more advice on exercising whilst breastfeeding, perhaps nursing mums need more emphasis on strengthening the pecs. Also some of the stretches could have been held a bit longer.Only trouble is finding time to do this with a new baby and a toddler to contend with. Otherwise, very inspiring and thorough...feel the difference already!
