Dated, Questionable Illustrations
The book is a collection of poems for young children. While some poems are fun, catchy and uplifting, others are strange and dated. The illustrations can also be a bit frightening for a young child. For instance, one picture depicts a baker/butcher holding a large knife. Next to the butcher are random human body parts.

This book has been a surprise hit with my students! It is older, and to be honest I was a little disappointed when I purchased the book sight unseen on the recommendation of another teacher. The psychedelic illustrations looked dated and made me hesitant to use it as a read aloud in my classroom. But the silly poetry is engaging, and the kids (especially the boys) LOVED it!!! They laughed and giggled when I read a few selections, and I heard the poem "Alligator Pie" repeated on several occasions.

Truly fun for kids (Canadian or otherwise)
It read this book to my granddaughter (3 years old) what seems a hundred times. Neither she nor I are tired of these great poems and ditties. Truly a Canadian book in it references to Casa Loma, Medicine Hat, and Moose Jaw. Others might not find the references to be relevant. But, Alligator Pie "if I don't get some, I think I'm gonna die" My granddaughter has half the book memorized by now.

Different than your typical children's book
I love that this uses the original artwork. It is so unique and the original was my favorite book as a child. It could be scary in places, but I found it charged my imagination. I had to buy this for my little girl.

8 year old giggles
My twin 8 year old boys love the language fun in this book. We homeschool and have several bookcases of books. I choose a small rotating stack to keep as our homeschool library and put them away with the other materials at 3pm. Today one of the boys snuck into the closet to get this book back out. Highly recommend.

Loved it!
Dennis Lee is truly the Canadian version of Mother Goose. Especially loved the rhymes about wiggling to the Laundromat, alligator pie, and sky scrapers scraping the sky. Just bought a copy for my great grandson. Go Hastings shipped my purchase promptly and in perfect condition.

A Canadian Classic!
My 3 year old daughter's favourite book. And I never get tired of reading it to her because the poems are so fun and catchy and many of them are tongue twisters so I enjoy the challenge. Much prefer Dennis Lee to Shel Silverstein. And he's Canadian!

Great rhythm of words. Prefect for children and parents to share.
Gave it to our grandchild for Christmas. We read it to her father as a little boy. He loved it. Now it is turn to keep a tradition.

It was a hit!
Great book for youngsters who have sense of the absurd. Maybe kids need to try this book to find out if they think absurdity if fun.
