This is the first shoulder rest I have ever purchased so I don't know what an expensive rest is like. However, I can say that I am pleased with this rest. I was a bit concerned about the plastic materials but it is holding up well. For the money, I made a good purchase. I didn't give it 5 stars since I don't know how it compares with other rests. I will say that it is much better than the rest that came with my violin.

Very comfortable
This shoulder rest us very nice, better built and more comfortable than what I had when I learned to play violin many moons ago. Easy to adjust, plastic will not scratch instruments. Looks like it will last.

First time purchasing violin shoulder rest, so I wasn't sure it was a good buy. The product is great for my teenager. It works perfectly and fits in her violin case although the case does not have a designated space for the rest. Time will tell, but I believe it was an excellent purchase in terms of functionality, comfort, price and shipping time.
