Q: Is it true that at some of the higher height settings that there are not enough holes on each leg to allow for two ‘pegs’ per side to hold table up?

I have the two pegs on the top setting - it is fine for seated use - would not be great for a standing height desk. But works well for our design and construction prints (36x42)

Q: how much weight can the table support?

This table is strong, sturdy and stable, but it really wasn't designed for heavy objects. I have no idea how much weight it could take. I would not care to risk testing it with my own product. ;-) The pencil ledge is too narrow/shallow for me to trust that anything heavy wouldn't slide off and land on my knees or feet. (It only sits out less than half an inch.) If you leave it flat/horizontal, then the weight must be centered, above the stand. IMHO, an easel would be far better for supporting more weight on an angle. Likewise, a standard table is best for supporting a lot of weight in a horizontal position. Be well. Be safe.

Q: Can this be sanded down? The finish is too dark and doesn't match my other furniture.

If your question means a total refinishing job, then yes, go ahead with that big project. This drafting table is made of pine, so it would be easy to sand it down all over and refinish it for whatever color you prefer. You could even have different parts, each with its own stain, if you like. Interesting. Painting the stand black would make the adjustment plates less noticeable and make it more fashionable, overall. However, if your question is whether sanding could lighten the color, then no. Any stain has no depth at all, really, so sanding would just totally remove that mahogany finish. Qa'pla! (Klingon for "Success!") Be well. Be safe.
