They are holding up perfectly through this rainy Michigan spring/summer. Not paper but also not plastic....sort of like a thin silky fabric.

I did not receive the lights that were supposed to come with these lanterns, but other than that, the lantern quality is good. I ordered lanterns in white and you can notice some spots of glue on some of them as well as a couple tiny dot marks that were black or green... In order to stretch the lanterns out to a sphere, I had to gently remove the parts that were glued together. Also, the wire frame has to bend a little bit to be able to fit inside some of the spheres, but the material stretches without it looking too flimsy. Overall, a great product for the price, I just wish I received the lights that were marketed for this product!

All the pink lanterns faded in a couple of days.
