The A& 1970-1975

Review of 8 CD release: Great to have these albums compiled into an 8 CD package --- long overdue. I would say package wise it's overpriced at original price of over £80, but I waited until a price drop to £66 which is more like it. Would have been nice to get more imagery of original cover artwork (or the discs themselves in replica card covers) and the lyrics within the slim hardback book which wouldn't have added too many more pages, so one star dropped. But as for the music, never sounded better. What a great band they were. My first purchase of Humble Pie (apart from the great single Natural Born Woman) was the double LP Performance: Rockin' the Fillmore back in the early 70s on its release, side 1 in particular being an absolute blast. Loved it and wore it out. Studio albums tamer in comparison (let's face it, they would have to be!), but some great music and performances throughout The earlier Immediate label albums also definitely worth seeking out to get the full Pie picture (or should it be dish?) Rock On!

About time! Hit and miss getting all of their music onto cd's-usually there have been compilations but now one can get all of them on this box set. 1st 4 cd's are the best Humble Pie, Rock On, Rockin the Filmore, and Smokin' (3 with Peter Frampton rest with Dave Clemson) Eat It, Thunderbox and Street Rats are o.k. and always have been as the band seemed to lose some direction of where to go. 8th Cd is bonus material songs glad it was included in the box set. To get all their output one needs to purchase the now 2 cd set of their 1st 2 LPs which were done on Immediate label, then one will have their entire catalog of musical output.

I already have all of these albums, which I bought when they came out, but when I saw this box set, and read that it has been remixed, I took a deep breath and ordered it. What a revelation! The sound is superb, with terrific separation on the instruments, and it sounds like the band is in the room with you. All of these albums are superb, showing off the musicality of one of the most talented groups ever, and possibly if the original albums had been given the production quality of these reissues, then Pie may have achieved greater success. The price is eye-watering, although this includes delivery from the USA and import duty, but for the true Pie fan, it is worth it. Keith Richards did not name Pie as one of his top five bands for nothing.

If you're reading this you probably already know the quality of the musicianship and songwriting. As noted by previous reviewers, these remastered LPs have been lovingly curated with replica artwork and restored sound, Smokin' and Eat It being the biggest beneficiaries; they sound amazing. I've always thought Eat It is one of the most underrated albums of all time - it really has everything you could possibly want from a record - right up there with Physical Graffiti and Exile On Main Street in terms of classic 70s double albums. And the packaging is an essay in how these things should be done. Superb.I have three minor gripes that would have made this amazing package even better: 1. a booklet with essays, articles, reviews, lyrics and recording details would have been nice. 2. Why the US not the UK version of Street Rats? Funky To The Bone is so much better than There 'Tis. 3. An EP with The Outcrowd; Big Black Dog, the single edit version of I Don't Need No Doctor [live] and the alternative versions of Street Rats [US/UK] songs. Ah well!Now, if Warners could see their way to doing this for the Faces and some enterprising company pulled together a Ronnie Lane & Slim Chance vinyl box set of similar quality, along with last years Free vinyl box set and the first two Bad Company vinyl reissues I'd probably stop buying music altogether (well, apart from maybe some Temperance Movement and Rival Sons).Extra special kudos to Amazon who DHL'd this half way around the world to Tokyo in a sturdy box with a specially cut out snugly-fitting hard plastic foam surround inside a bigger box, all for less than four quid. Outstanding service, thank you.

This box set is absolutely terrific, Quite simply, I've never heard these great albums sound so good. I started with 'Rock On' and I was genuinely knocked out. Punchy, detailed and totally immersive. The vinyl is ultra silent in the quieter passages too. If you're a Pie fan you NEED this box. The only complaint I have is that the download code won't validate. I've e-mailed Push Entertainment and I'm sure it will get sorted out.

Humble Pie...my favourite band...a real pleasure to have these remastered versions in my collection! If you like real rock, top performers and probably the finest rock and soul singer the UK has ever produced then get this fabulous set!
