Roma victor!
Decent colorful 34 page book about the Roman society. Our 7-year old has a fascination with Rome since we witnessed the spectacular gladiator fights and horse race in the Puy du Fou arena. We have quite some material and books at hand and he is quite an expert for his age. However as his next history topic at school will be about the Roman empire I thought this would be a good refreshment and suitable book for guided reading. The text and illustrations are good. The book essentially follows the daily life of a wealthy patrician. All is quite informative but it doesn’t go beyond the main and standard topics and facts. Moreover, the life of a wealthy individual as a topic could have been swapped for the life of a Britton slave, a Germanic gladiator or more mundane shop owner to get a more dramatic and realistic perspective of what life was like for the Roman masses.Still there is not much to complain given the friendly £5.50 we paid for it.
