Gerber Gear Pledge Pocket Knife

Freakin love this knife, been carrying it for years. blade is super easy to sharpen because of the straight blade and it's very lightweight!

Arrived with a very sharp blade, hinge action is very smooth. I was a little surprised at the overall weight - it is lighter than expected, due to the handle. I expected it to have a little more heft, but I don't object to it being lighter to carry. The blade is sturdy in the handle - no movement so far. We'll see over time if the handle holds up. The red handle is a dull red - nothing flashy, and the black oxide blade looks great.

The biggest reason I chose this knife is because it has a nice flat surface for laser engraving the blade. The black wash also provides a nice contrast for the engraving. The blade is sharp enough from the factory. The action opens smoothly with no play in the blade. It's a decent price for what you get and the simple design has a timeless classiness to it.

This knife is exactly what I expected. Very clean looking and amazing looking but, made fomr lower end materials. The scales look great but, lack texture and feel a little cheap in the hand. The blade profile is great and exactly what I was after and it arrived razor-sharp. I bought it because of its profile when closed which is perfect. It is basically a perfect 1-inch rectangle top to bottom and it takes up way less room in my pocket. Opening the blade could be much better but, for the price I didn't expect much. The biggest gripe I have is the thumb stud is a little too recessed to get a good grip to flip the blade out but, when the blade does open completely the locking mechanism works extremely well. When locked the blade doesn't move any direction at all. There is no play side to side which I sometimes see on cheaper knives. The lock release could be grippier but, it is fine. All told this thing fits well in my pockets on any jeans with tighter fits or smaller pockets and that is what I was after so I got exactly what I wanted.

I've got Benchmades and ZTs, but I reach for this one every day. Solid, sharp and sleek. I put a generic deep carry clip on it. Carries great, cuts great, looks great. Great knife.

This is a good looking knife that is razor sharp.Excellent value for what I paid.

The Gerber Pledge looks really nice, but the build quality is lacking - the first thing that you notice upon looking closer at the TORX screws (see attached photos - had to look online to find out it's a T6) that they're all either stripped out or damaged enough from the factory that it's not worth trying and making it worse.I'm going to leave the clip and thumb stud where they are but the "reversible thumb stud" and "reversible pocket clip" was a selling point. I expected more from a well-known brand like Gerber.TL;DR - Blade is sharp out of the packaging, balance is good, pivots easily to open. Locks safely, but a tad awkward to close. looks (for my taste) are good but lack of attention to detail dings what would be a good everyday use tool.
